2014 Wondai Show
The main public day of the 97th Annual Wondai Show will be held at Wondai Showgrounds in Baynes Street, Wondai from 8:30am this morning until around 7:00pm tonight when the Live Bucking Bull Bonanza kicks into action. This year's Show will feature a jam-packed programme of events including chain-saw racing; 3 rings of horse events; the second day of the South Burnett Kennel Club Dog Show; Viv's Animal Farm; Rampt Mini FMX stunt bike riders; the chainsaw carving of an emu from a two-tone block of wood by Matty G.; plus demonstrations by local woodcrafters, spinners, weavers and many, many other things. There'll also be performances by the Wondai Town Band and Dealin' Duo; terrific art, craft and pavilion displays; and a great sideshow alley. The Show will be officially opened at 1:30pm by Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney and Cr Kathy Duff, and the Grand Parade will follow at around 2:30pm. This in turn will be followed by live entertainment. And then the day will be capped off by the pulse-pounding Wondai IGA Live Bucking Bull Bonanza in the evening, which will get underway at 7:00pm sharp. A licensed bar and hot food outlets will be operating throughout the day and evening too. Admission is $10 for adults, $6 for pensioners and high school students and $2 for primary schoolers (pre-schoolers are free!). And admission to the Wondai IGA Live Bucking Bull Bonanza is exactly the same - but if you go to the Wondai Show admission to the Live Bucking Bull Bonanza is included in the price! (pass-out tickets are available throughout the day). There's also plenty of free parking available at the Showgrounds if you're driving. More details? Kumbia Country Markets
The third Kumbia Country Markets for 2014 (run by the Kumbia Hall Committee) will be held in Bell Street and the precincts of the Kumbia Hall from 7:00am to 12:00 noon today. The markets feature homemade gifts, fashions, fresh fruit and vegies, plants and crafts and a sausage sizzle will be operating too! Kumbia Antiques Roadshow
The second annual Kumbia Antiques Roadshow will be held at Kumbia Hall in Bell Street from 9:30am to 4:00pm today (and also from 11:30am tomorrow). If you love antiques, a $25 ticket includes morning tea, lunch and written valuations on a maximum of two items (your pieces will be identified, discussed and valued by licenced valuer, Ray Dalton). Kumbia Kindy Community Yard Sale
Gosh - it's all happening in Kumbia today! If you're in the mood for a bargain, the Kumbia Kindergarten will be holding a Community Yard Sale at the Kindy's premises on the Bunya Highway in Kumbia from 8:00am until 11:00am this morning. The Kindy is clearing out some excess resources and furniture as a fundraiser, and the Kumbia community has joined in and helped by donating many unwanted household items too. In all, there'll be over 1,000 items including toys, puzzles, books, furniture, appliances and bric-a-brac on sale - all priced to sell! 2014 South Burnett Rugby League Grand Finals - Cherbourg
The Grand Finals of the South Burnett's 2014 rugby league competition will be played at Jack O'Chin Oval in Cherbourg today - and if you're a league fan, it'll be an all-star bumper occasion. The action will get underway early at 9:00am with the U6s/U8s games, followed at 10:00am by the U12s Grand Final (Nanango v Cherbourg); then at 11:15am with the U14s Grand Final (Kingaroy v Murgon). This will be followed at 12:30pm by the U16s Grand Final (Murgon v Cherbourg), and then by the U18s Grand Final (Murgon v Nanango) at 2:00pm. But at 3:30pm the day's biggest game of all - the A-Grade Grand Final between Cherbourg and Murgon - is sure to get the stadium rocking asthis season's two best teams battle it out for ultimate supremacy. Admission to the grounds is $5, a canteen will be operating, and spectators and supporters are very welcome!
PPC Dinner Dance - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Parish Pastoral Council will be holding a Dinner-Dance at the Kingaroy RSL Club in Markwell Street, Kingaroy from 7:00pm onwards this evening as a fund-raiser to purchase a new organ or keyboard for St. Mary's Catholic Church in Kingaroy. The dinner will feature an alternate drop 2 course meal, plus entertainment from "Body & Soul", along with a raffle and a mini cent auction. Tickets are $40 per head for adults or $10 per head for children under 14, and seating will be in tables of eight. Tickets can be purchased at the Parish Office or St. Mary's Catholic College offices in Kent Street, Kingaroy. For catering purposes, tickets need to be booked and paid for by Friday, August 22.
2014 South Burnett Soccer Grand Finals - Nanango
The South Burnett Evolution Solar Football League will be playing their 2014 Grand Finals at Fred Kassulke Oval off the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango's CBD this afternoon. It should be a great day of first rate football action for soccer fans, and a particularly great day for Nanango since the home teams will be playing in all three divisions. At 2:00pm, Nanango will play Gunners in 2nd Division; at 4:00pm, Nanango will play Wests in the Women's Division; and at 6:00pm, Nanango will play Barambah in First Division. A bar and canteen will be operating, admission is free and everyone is welcome!
Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
Cats (The Musical) - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Musical Comedy Society will be holding their final performances of the classic Andrew Lloyd Webber musical "Cats" at the Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy at 2:00pm this afternoon; and then at 7:30pm tonight. The musical tells the story of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles and the night they make what is known as "the Jellicle choice" to decide which cat will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life. Cats first opened in the West End in 1981 and Broadway the succeeding year, and as of 2014 has become the second longest-running show in Broadway history, and the fourth longest-running West End musical. Tickets for performances can be obtained in advance from Kingaroy Office Central in Haly Street, but will also be on sale at the door.
Dance - Booie Hall
A dance will be held at Booie Hall from 7:300pm until around 11:30pm this evening. Music will be supplied by a local band and there'll be the usual great supper, novelties and lucky door prize. Art Exhibition Opening - Kingaroy

Yarraman To Moore Rail Trail Ride
Rail Trail advocate Paul Heymans will be cycling between Yarraman and Moore today to promote his campaign for the completion of "missing links" in the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail, particularly in areas under the control of Somerset Regional Council. U.G.L.Y. Trivia Night - Nanango
The Fitzroy Hotel in Fitzroy Street, Nanango will be holding an U.G.L.Y. Trivia Night from 6:30pm onwards this evening to help raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation. Cost is $100 per team of six and it includes a free nibble plate and a surprise drink for the table. There'll be 10 Rounds of 10 questions ranging from general knowledge to beer facts and music icons, and prizes will be awarded for the round winners, Grand Champion and Ugliest Team. A Relay For Life Car Wash will be held at Lions Park in Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy from 8:00am to 3:00pm today as a fundraiser for this year's Relay For Life effort. In addition to $10 car washes, there'll also be a $2 sausage sizzle and coffee, cold drinks and soft serve icecream will also be available.

Leukaemia Foundation Charity Ride - Cooyar
A Charity Ride to raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation will be leaving the Cooyar Hotel at around 10:00am this morning, proceeding to the Stanley Hotel at Kilcoy and then across to Somerset Dam for lunch; then travelling on to Perseverance Dam and Crows Nest, before returning to Cooyar in the late afternoon for a pig-on-a-spit dinner and live music until late around a big bonfire supplied by the Mr Q Band. There'll also be free overnight camping available in the grounds if you want to stay over, plus a big country BBQ breakfast available Sunday morning. The Charity Ride is open to all motorbikes and cars, and entry fees are $100 to do the whole ride and Sunday breakfast; $45 to do the ride and lunch; or $25 if you'd prefer just the pig-on-a-spit dinner and evening entertainment.
