Scots In The Bush - Boondooma Homestead
The second (and main) day of a three-day Scots In The Bush Scottish and Celtic Festival will be held at Boondooma Homestead at 8262 Mundubbera-Durong Road at Boondooma today. The Festival features Scottish pipe bands and dancers, folk singers and poets as well as Scottish food, games and more; and special guests this year include the Ishka Ceilidh Band, Celtic Psychosis, Country Kin, the Leaping Lizards, the Noosa Pipe Band, Darryl Craft, Tartan Time, Celtic Kin and the Rum City Highland Dancers, amongst others. A licensed bar will be running throughout the event and meals will be available too, as well as on-site camping and Highland games. Tickets for the full three days are $50 per head for adults (which includes a bush camping site), but you can just attend today for $25 if you prefer (children under 14 are free). More details? Friendship Markets - Kingaroy
The third Saturday of the month Friendship Markets will be held at the Senior Citizens Centre in Avoca Street, Kingaroy from 6:30am to around 12:00pm today. Saturday Rugby League - Kingaroy
The Major and Minor Semi-Finals of the South Burnett's 2014 rugby league competition will be played at T.J. O'Neill Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy all day today - and if you're a league fan, today's games will offer another big weekend of league action following hard on the heels of last weekend's Intrust Super Cup game. The action will kick off at 8:30am with the U12 Major Semi (Nanango v Cherbourg), followed at 9:30am by the U12 Minor Semi (Wondai v Central Burnett). This will be followed by the U14 Minor Semi at 10:30am (Nanango v Central Burnett) and then the U14 Major Semi (Murgon v Kingaroy) at 11:30am. After this, at 12:30pm, Kingaroy will play Nanango in the U16s Minor Semi, then at 2:00pm Cherbourg will play Murgon in the U16s Mahor Semi. At 3:30pm, Murgon will play Nanango in the U18s Major Semi (Cherbourg will play the loser of this game in the preliminary final next weekend), and these matches will be followed by this week's A-Grade games: Wondai Wolves v Kingaroy Red Ants at 5:00pm in the Minor Semi; and then Cherbourg Hornets v Murgon Mustangs at 7:00pm in the Major Semi. Admission to the grounds is $5, a bar and canteen will be operating, and spectators and supporters are very welcome!
PK Duet - Kingaroy

QCWA Young Girl's Craft Group - Kingaroy
The QCWA Young Girls' Craft Group will be holding their regular third Saturday of the month meeting at the QCWA Rooms in Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy (just next to the RSL) from 1:00pm to 4:00pm this afternoon. The group is for young girls aged 10 years and older, who can learn useful crafts and home skills such as sewing, knitting, crochet, cooking, healthy eating, catering and presentation under the supervision of QCWA ladies and a supervisor. There's a small $2 charge each day to cover the cost of goods used, but all young girls are very welcome. Elvis Tribute Concert - Nanango
The South Burnett's very own Elvis (aka Jeff Hancox) will be performing at Taras Hall next to Nanango RSL from 7:30pm until late this evening in a special concert to commemorate the 37th anniversary of Elvis Presley's death. Admission is $10 and everyone is welcome!
South Burnett Woodcrafters - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Woodcrafters will be holding their regular Saturday morning meeting at their clubhouse, which is located behind the Kingaroy Visitor Information Centre in Haly Street from 8:00am to around mid-day today. The RSPCA will be holding a Giant Cupcake Sale outside Foodworks in Alford Street, Kingaroy from 8:30am onwards this morning as a fundraiser. There'll be lots of great cupcakes on sale, and for a gold coin donation children can dcorate their own too. You can read more about it on our website.
Yarraman To Linville Rail Trail Walk
POSTPONED: Rail Trail advocate Paul Heymans will be cycling between Yarraman and Linville today to promote his campaign for the completion of "missing links" in the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail, particularly in areas under the control of Somerset Regional Council. Supporters should assemble at Yarraman at 10:00am if they'd like to cycle, walk or ride alongside him. You can read more about this event on our website. Note: Because of anticipated wet weather this weekend, Paul's ride has been postponed until Saturday, August 30.
South Burnett Shines - Nanango
CANCELLED: The second annual South Burnett Shines Business, Tourism & Lifestyle Expo will be held in Pioneer Park, Nanango (just behind the South Burnett Aquatic Centre) from 10:00am to 3:00pm today. South Burnett Shines is designed to showcase all that's great about the South Burnett and apart from many display stands run by traditional, home-based and hobby businesses, tourist operators, community groups and market stalls selling anything from jewellery to fishing gear, clothes to toys and chocolates to macadamias, there'll also be lots of fun for the whole family. Children can be entertained with a jumping castle, face-painting, games and rides as well as art and craft activities, while adults can take in the South Burnett Championship Ute Muster (which will be running all day) along with motorcycle and hot rod displays; performances by local musicians and bands; art and craft displays and lots, lots more! There'll also be plenty of food and drink stands spread around the grounds and a licensed bar, too. Best of all, admission is 100% free and everyone is welcome! More details?
