Vietnam Veterans Day - Hivesville, Nanango and Kingaroy
Today is Vietnam Veterans Day, which was formerly known as Long Tan Day in memory of the 18 Australians killed at the battle of Long Tan on the 18th August 1966 when troops from 6th Battalion of the Royal Australian Regiment engaged a large enemy force there. Vietnam Veterans Day has come to symbolise our nation's collective memory of the Vietnam War and in the South Burnett, special services are conducted every year to mark it. In Hivesville, the South Burnett branch of the Vietnam Veterans Of Australia will be holding a commemoration service at Hivesville Park at 10:45am (assemble at 10:30am); in Nanango, the Nanango RSL will be holding an afternoon service at 4:30pm at the Drayton Street War Memorial; and in Kingaroy, the Kingaroy RSL will be holding a Dusk Service at the Memorial Park Rotunda in William Street at 6:00pm. All members of the public are most welcome to attend (BYO chair) and enquiries regarding the services and/or wreath laying should be directed to George Stewart on (07) 4164-2241. Youth Choir Practice Afternoon - Wondai
- The South Burnett Youth Choir will be holding their regular Monday afternoon practice sessions at the Anglican Church Hall in Baynes Street, Wondai from 4:00pm to around 6:30pm today. The Junior SBYC will practice at 4:00pm; the Concert Choir at 4:30pm; and the Senior SBYC at 5:30pm.
