Meanwhile, Kingaroy's Satellite Cinema will also be screening Happy Feet 2 at 11:00am and Any Questions For Ben? at 2:00pm. Million Paws Walk - Kingaroy
The annual RSPCA Million Paws Walk - a fundraiser for the Kingaroy RSPCA - will be held at Lions Park in Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy (just opposite The Peanut Van) from 8:00am this morning (when Walk registrations will commence - the walk gets underway at 9:00am) until around 2:00pm this afternoon. Owners can bring their well-behaved dogs along for either a 2km or 4km circuit walk - which takes about an hour or so - and then follow things up with the family by enjoying a community sausage sizzle, an egg-and-spoon race, costume awards, or taking part in the many other things that will be on offer. These include a mobile hydrobath offering deeply discounted $13 baths for your pooch; $25 micro-chipping; face-painting for children; market stalls; great coffee; and much more. Entry to the walk costs $15 for adults, $10 for children under 16, $10 for concessions or $35 for a family of four and all proceeds of this morning's efforts will go to the Kingaroy RSPCA to help their important work looking after the South Burnett's unwanted and/or abused pets. Everyone is welcome to this great social morning - last year more than 50 walkers took part - and you can obtain more details by phoning the RSPCA on (07) 4162-5501 or by visiting the Million Paws Walk website. PS: If you pre-register for this event you can save money. Pre-registration fees are $12 for adults, $6 for children, $8 for concessions or $28 for a family. PPS: Haven't got a well-behaved dog (or any dog at all) but still want to take part? If you give the RSPCA a call beforehand, they'll set you up with a shelter dog for the walk. It's a great way to give them exercise and who knows? You may meet a new lifelong friend.
Salvation Army 2012 Red Shield Appeal Kingaroy Doorknock
The Salvation Army's annual Red Shield Appeal will be held today, and teams of volunteers will be knocking on doors in Kingaroy in an effort to help the Salvos reach their 2012 target. The doorknock helps the Salvos continue their valuable social work programs in the South Burnett - vital things like crisis housing; support for families in need; alcohol, drug and gambling rehabilitation programs; aged care services and telephone counselling - and the Red Shield Appeal also helps the Salvos fill in the 25% gap that the Federal Government doesn't pay for. If you'd like to help the Salvos with a little bit of door-knocking yourself, volunteer collectors and drivers will be assembling outside the Westpac Bank in Alford Street, Kingaroy at 8:00am this morning (the Salvos have plenty of drivers but could really do with some more collectors). And after a short two-hour stint, you'll be rewarded with a sausage sizzle, a free drink and some McDonalds vouchers as "thank you" from the Red Shield Appeal crew, as well as the inner satisfaction of knowing you've done something good to help the less fortunate in our community.
Blackbutt RSL Annual General Meeting
The Blackbutt RSLA & Citizens Memorial Club Inc will be holding its Annual General Meeting in the club's premises at the corner of Muir and Douglas Streets in Blackbutt at 10:30am this morning. All members are welcome to attend.
Sunday Markets - Kilkivan
The weekly Kilkivan Markets will be held in Lester Millar Park in Kilkivan from 7:00am until around 11:00am this morning. The markets feature an array of locally produced fruit, vegetables and merchandise and new stallholders are always welcome! More details? Phone Dulcie on (07) 5484-1032
Stuart River Rural Fire Brigade Open Day
The Stuart River Rural Fire Brigade will be holding an Open Day at the Brigade's shed at 10305 Bunya Highway (south-west of Kingaroy) from 10:00am to 3:00pm today. The Open Day will feature a sausage sizzle, station tours and a display of bushfire safety and survival information, and everyone is welcome to come along and see what these dedicated firies do. More details? Phone Malcolm on (0407) 828-404.
