90th Annual Burrandowan Picnic Races
- The Burrandowan Picnic Races - a South Burnett tradition since 1922 and one of Queensland's most famous picnic race meetings - will be held at the Burrandowan Race Track 66km southwest of Kingaroy today. There'll be a five-race program, Fashions of the Field competition as well as a fully licensed bar (no BYO) and food available all day. The traditional Burrandowan pit-fired barbecue will be going at night and attendees can dance the night away under the stars with Stunt Pig. Entry is $25 per adult (under 18s free). Jeff Hancox - Kingaroy
- Can't get to Burrandowan (above) but feel like a great night out in Kingaroy anyway? Then get along to the Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street and get down with the South Burnett's very own Jeff Hancox (YouTubed at left performing at the 2009 Peanut Festival). Jeff will be putting on a top show from 7:30pm to around 11:30pm singing all The King's favourites as part of the RSL's on-going campaign to showcase the South Burnett's best home-grown performers. Fed Up Roadshow - Kingaroy
- The South Burnett Young Leaders Association and Taabinga State School P&C are bringing author Sue Dengate's Fed Up Roadshow to Kingaroy today. Sue is a former teacher and author of the "Fed Up" series of books about food intolerance and the effects various foodstuffs have on children. She'll be talking about tantrums, defiance, asthma, migraines, sleep issues, tiredness and much, much more. The talk will run from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the Taabinga State School Resource Centre in Rae Srreet, Kingaroy. Cost is $15. Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
- The Kingaroy Bowling Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
Murgon Open Garden
- The Barambah Garden Club will be holding an Open Garden Day at 21 Thompson Street in Murgon between 8:30am and 4:30pm today. This is an attractive young garden located near the local creek, and in addition to being a delight to inspect there'll also be plants, seedlings and fruit trees on sale, a great sausage sizzle and tea and coffee available. Markets In The Garden - Kumbia
- Kumbia's new Markets In The Garden will be held in Bell Street, Kumbia from 7:00am to around 1:00pm today. These markets are now held on the second Saturday of each month and feature fresh fruit and vegies, jewellery, childerens furniture and toys, plants, hairdresser dolls and bears, bric-a-brac and collectables amongst many other things. There's also live music, face painting for children, a variety of free workshops and even a sausage sizzle! New stallholders are also very welcome. More details? South Burnett Rugby League
- The 4th Round of the South Burnett Premier League will be played this weekend with the Wondai Wolves juniors taking on the Kingaroy Red Ants juniors at the Wondai Sportgrounds off the Bunya Highway at Wondai; the Murgon Mustangs playing the Nanango Stags at the Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street, Murgon; and the Cherbourg Hornets playing Blackbutt at Jack O'Chin Oval in Cherbourg. In today's other junior matches, the Cherbourg Hornets will be playing against Blackbutt and Central Burnett, and the U-18s will be playing an away game at Eskdale Park. Spectators and supporters are very welcome.
South Burnett Soccer
- The 4th round of the Evolution Solar Soccer League will be played out in Kingaroy and Nanango today. In Nanango, the 2nd division Gunners will take on Nanango at the Nanango Soccer Grounds at 12:45pm. This will be followed by the womens division where the Gunnettes will clash with Nanango at 2:00pm; and then the 1st division clash for the Presidents Cup final between Nanango and Gunners at 3:15pm. Meanwhile in Kingaroy, 2nd division Wests will play Barambah at Tom Alford Oval in Oliver Bond Street at 2:00pm. This will be followed by a clash between Wests and Barambah in the women's division at 3:15pm, and then the first grade game between Barambah and Wests at 5:00pm. And as usual for the last few weeks, junior matches will be played at the Wondai Sports Grounds off the Bunya Highway north of Wondai from 8:30am this morning for all other divisions. Yarraman Markets - Yarraman
- The Yarraman Progress Association's monthly Yarraman Markets will be held at Errol Munt Oval in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 1:00pm today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls and an under-cover play area for children. Proston Car Rally
- The Proston Car Rally Club will be holding a rally at their track this weekend. The Club's track is located 7.5km west of Proston on the Proston-Boondooma Road, and racing will commence around 10:30am this morning and conclude at around 2:30pm tomorrow. Nanango Theatre Company Auditions
- The Nanango Theatre Company will be holding auditions for their next production "Pilots of the Purple Twilight" (POTPT) at their playhouse at the corner of Elk and George Streets in Nanango at 10:00am this morning and again at 3:00pm this afternoon. POTPT will be performed in late October and early November this year and the NTC are looking for both actors and back-stage personnel. New members are very welcome! More details? - The Nanango & District Netball Association will be taking on the Kingaroy Netball Association at the Nanango netball courts in Brooklands Road, Nanango at 12:00 noon today as a fundraiser for breast cancer research. More details will be published as they become available.
Mothers Day Cent Sale - Mondure
- The Hivesville QCWA will be running their popular annual Mother's Day Cent Sale at the Mondure Hall in Main Street, Mondure from 1:00pm today (doors open at 12:30pm). And with Mother's Day coming up tomorrow, this could be a great chance to pick up a last-minute treasure for Mum. Entry is a slim $3.00 (which includes afternoon tea) and there'll be great prizes on offer, 5 draws, a raffle and lucky door prize. Nanart Arts Festival - Nanango
- The first full day of Nanart 2012 (the 12th annual Nanango Arts Festival) will be held in and around the environs of the Nanango Cultural Centre at the corner of George and Drayton Streets, Nanango from 9:00am to 5:00pm today. Throughout the day Nanart's extensive art, photography, sculpture and craft exhibition will be on view inside the Cultural Centre while a variety of craft and food stalls will dot the lawns outside, along with roving musicians and arts-related displays. Nanart will conclude tomorrow, and you can obtain more details about anything to do with the Festival on the Festival's website.
Seafood Buffet - Murgon
- Sakina's Seafood Buffet - which is held on the 2nd Saturday of each month - will be running at the Saleyard Cafe on Gayndah Road at Murgon at 6:30pm this evening. Kilkivan Campdraft - Kilkivan
- The first full day of the weekend-long Kilkivan Campdraft will be held at Kilkivan Showgrounds from 6:30am this morning until late tonight. This year's campdraft - the first for two years after flood damage caused cancellation of the 2011 event - will feature a maiden and novice draft A and B today; a restricted open draft under lights tonight; and an open and women's events tomorrow. Nominations have been received from all over Queensland and NSW, so it promises to be a hotly-centested event indeed! Admission to the campdraft is completely free for spectators. This evening, there'll be a free campfire concert at the Showgrounds, and food and drink will be widely available in the grounds too. - The South Burnett's wineries and cellar doors will all be open this weekend if you want to relax in their cafes and/or taste their wines. The South Burnett is now the largest wine region in Queensland and (excluding the Granite Belt) larger than all the State's other wine regions put together.
