Big Break Talent Search Auditions - Kingaroy
- Here's something different! The Commercial Hotel at the corner of Glendon and Haly Streets in Kingaroy will be hosting the second round of auditions for the new Big Break Talent Search from 8:30pm until around 10:30pm tonight. Big Break is looking for the South Burnett's best performers (in any style) and tonight's auditions will follow this schedule:
- • 8:30pm: Jason Perkins - a blues and rock singer-songwriter playing acoustic.
- • 9:00pm: Chris Wenner and Josh Middleton playing a set of blues & roots numbers featuring a bass and lead guitar along with drums.
- • 9:30pm: Paula-Jayne Ogilvie - Guitar soloist delivering a pleasing line up of modern country faves.
- • 10:00pm: Mossy and Steve-O take a break from stretching an arm at the bar to deliver a surprise package with dueling acoustic guitars
Big Break is sponsored by Musician's Oasis, Tanglewood Guitars, DJdirex Entertainment and (of course) The Com Pub Kingaroy and there'll be one final set of Thursday night auditions net week, followed by heats and semi-finals later this month, and then the Grand Final on Friday 8th June for some really, really great prizes. Anyone is welcome to try out at the auditions and you can pick up entry forms from Musician's Oasis at 20 Alford Street, Kingaroy or at the hotel.
The Magic Pudding - Nanango
- SchoolScreen will be screening a one-time showing of the classic Australian animated film "The Magic Pudding" at the Nanango Cultural Centre in George Street, Nanango at 1:15pm today as part of the National Film and Sound Archive's schools program. Admission is free for school age children, otherwise bookings can be made online.
St Josephs Bingo - Murgon
- St Joseph's Parish Hall in Angel Avenue, Murgon will be holding bingo games from 7:30pm this evening. There'll be $1000 in prizes on offer as well as a canteen and lucky bingo tickets. Proceeds will go to aid St Joseph's school and community works.
Thursday Afternoon Golf - Nanango
- The Nanango Golf Club on the D'Aguilar Highway at Nanango holds a 9-hole stableford game every Thursday afternoon for anyone interested in playing. Names need to be in by 1:00pm for a 1:30pm start, and new players are always welcome. More details? Phone the golf club on (07) 4163-1463
Nanango Play Group
- Are you a Nanango mother with young children who'd enjoy a social get-together with other mums? Then get along to the weekly Nanango Play Group, which will be meeting at the CTC Nanango Hub at 42 Drayton Street in Nanango (ie the old pre-school building) from 10:00am to 12:00 noon this morning. Its facilities include community kitchens and - at times - the group has discussions with local Community Health officers attending the Hub about healthy eating and recipes you're able to cook at home. Meanwhile your children can enjoy a great venue with toys and activities that help with early learning. The Play Group is completely free and new members are always welcome! More details? Block Stars Appearing In Kingaroy
- Dan and Dani - stars of the hit TV series "The Block" - will be appearing in-store at Sunshine Mitre 10 at 10 Rogers Drive in Kingaroy from 1:30pm to 3:00pm this afternoon. There'll be a Block pack giveaway, many other prizes and giveaways and a sausage sizzle on offer too. More details from the store on (07) 4172-9200.
Thursday Evening Art Classes - Kingaroy
- The Nimue Art Gallery in King Street, Kingaroy (immediately next to the Carrollee Hotel) will be holding another of their regular Thursday evening art classes from 6:00pm to 8:00pm tonight. The classes are led by professional art teacher Cory McAulay and cover drawing skills (including line, proportion, tonal values, composition, format, positive and negative shapes and perspective) and painting skills (including planning, organising the work area, painting techniques, washes and glazing etc) over the course of several weeks. The cost of each Thursday night art class is $25 and students need to bring materials to each class that are suitable for use in the subjects being taught on any particular evening, such as a drawing book or acrylic paint set. Murgon RSL Bingo
- The Murgon Services Club in Lamb Street, Murgon will be holding bingo games in the club's premises from 10:30am until around 12:30pm this morning. There's no admission fee, a $1000 jackpot prize and new players are very welcome! More details? Phone the club on (07) 4168-1819.
Alcoholics Anonymous - Kingaroy
- Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experiences, strengths and hopes with each other to help solve their common problems and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership, and A.A. isn't allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution.
