Motorists on the Burnett Highway will be pleased to hear construction work will start next week on a replacement for the Three Moon Creek Bridge, north of Eidsvold.

Queensland Bridge and Civil has been awarded the contract for the new concrete bridge, as well as a single-span flood overflow bridge on the approach.

Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack said the new bridge would replace a 62-year-old timber bridge.

The old bridge is also prone to flooding, forcing traffic to make a lengthy detour.

“The new bridge will be safer, more reliable and better suited for the vehicle types and volumes using it,” Mr McCormack said.

Member for Flynn Ken O’Dowd said the project would support local jobs and businesses at a time when it is needed most.

“This project will not only improve road safety, efficiency and reliability, it will also give a boost to the local economy by supporting over 50 jobs during the project’s life,” Mr O’Dowd said.
