Yarraman’s Station Park was overrun with cyclists – and festivalgoers – on Saturday for the Yarraman Festival, a celebration which greets the cyclists taking part in the annual Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Festival Of Cycling.
This year, 255 cyclists took part in the social cycling event, organised by the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Users Association.
Riders have the choice of doing the full length of the BVRT, ie. 161km from Wulkuraka, or shorter distances of 75km from Toogoolawah or 50km from Moore.
This year, 114 cyclists tackled the longest ride.
The fastest rider arrived in an amazing 5 hours and 2 minutes from Wulkuraka – a record for the event – although organisers stressed it is not a race. The aim is simply to explore the countryside and have fun with friends.
When the cyclists arrived at Station Park, they found a community festival in full swing, with food and drink stalls, live music, children’s activities and lots more!
The festival, which is sponsored by Stanwell, is organised by a small committee with support from local community radio station Wild Horse FM who were broadcasting live from the event.
