The two remaining residents of the Wondai Caravan Park have until the end of May to find alternative accommodation following a decision by the South Burnett Regional Council to close the facility permanently .

Cr Ros Heit told southburnett.com.au the decision to close the park was made by Council two years ago.

Since then, Council and the Department of Housing have been working with residents to find new accommodation.

Three residents have found new homes within the Wondai area.

Cr Heit said the decision to close the park was made when it was determined the toilet block in the facility required $300,000 worth of repairs.

“Council understood that some residents had lived in the park for some years but could not justify that amount of money for so few residents,” Cr Heit said.

“Council has worked closely with the residents over this extended period to find the best option for each.”

The park is located next to Wondai RSL and the Wondai Pool, and it offered both powered and unpowered sites.

Its facilities are described on one caravanning website as “adequate”.
