The Queensland Dairyfarmers’ Organisation has organised a farm biosecurity workshop for QDO members in the South Burnett.

The workshop, one of a series around the State, will be delivered in partnership with the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries.

Farmers will have the opportunity to develop an accredited farm biosecurity plan which will allow them to maintain their Bovine Johnes Disease (BJD)-free status.

The Kingaroy workshop will be held from 6:30pm to 9:00pm on Tuesday, August 8, at the DAF complex opposite Kingaroy Airport.

QDO President Brian Tessmann said it was essential that industry and government work collectively and constructively on issues of importance such as biosecurity.

“The new Queensland biosecurity framework has a renewed emphasis on shared responsibility between industry and government; these workshops are an opportunity for farmers to embrace this new model,” Mr Tessmann said.

“Both BJD and cattle ticks are major biosecurity concerns for Queensland dairy farmers. The recent changes to Queensland’s BJD regulation as well as the tick line mean these threats are front and centre for dairy farmers.”

DAF staff members Lawrence Gavey (BJD) and Malcolm Macleod (cattle ticks) will be facilitating relevant sessions at the workshops and will provide disease management options and advice for farmers.

These workshops are delivered by QDO and are for QDO members.
