A 72-year-old Kingaroy man was killed in a single-vehicle crash near the top of the Cooyar Range on Wednesday morning

About 8:30am, a Mitsubishi Eclipse was travelling southwards on Kingaroy-Cooyar Road.

It appears to have left the roadway near the intersection with the New England Highway at Neugmna and crashed down an embankment.

The driver died at the scene.

Two passengers – a 68-year-old Kingaroy woman and a 43-year-old Highgate Hill man – both suffered serious injuries and were airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

Two rescue helicopters were called to the incident and landed nearby.

A QAS spokesperson said one patient was transported in a critical condition with chest and abdominal injuries while the other was in a stable condition with chest injuries.

Traffic on Kingaroy-Cooyar Road was blocked in both directions for several hours while emergency services were at the scene.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the cause of the crash.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has relevant dashcam vision, should contact PoliceLink on 131-444.
