South Burnett residents concerned about the impact of ice (methamphetamine) on their community are invited to attend an ice forum at Kingaroy Town Hall on Tuesday, June 6.

Member for Maranoa David Littleproud is hosting a series of four forums across the Maranoa electorate to discuss the issue, which has been identified as a major health problem in rural Australia.

“Whether you’re a user, recovering from addiction, a family member, a medical professional, or are involved in community support or law enforcement, we need an open and honest discussion,” Mr Littleproud said.

“What works in one community may not be suitable for another, and that’s why a targeted and engaged approach is so important.

“There are more than 200,000 Australians using ice and I believe the solution lies in getting the right mix of services in each community.”

Mr Littleproud said the Federal Government will invest $298 million over four years to combat illicit drug and alcohol use in Australia.

He is hosting the forums in Chinchilla, Dalby, Kingaroy and Warwick to ensure Maranoa communities are represented and receive tailored support, preventative measures and treatment outcomes.

“I want to work with the health, law enforcement and education sectors, along with drug-impacted community members, to develop locally focused action plans that improve both preventative measures and treatment outcomes in Maranoa.”

The Kingaroy forum will be held at 7:30am.
