FLASHBACK: A quad bike in action at Manar Park in happier times for the Laidler family

An online fundraiser to support the owners of Manar Park has raised more than $23,000.

The GoFundMe was set up last month by Georgia Laidler on behalf of her father, David Laidler.

The Laidler family has owned the property, near Boondooma, for more than 100 years.

“This land has been in our family since 1903,” Georgia wrote online.

“For more than 120 years, generations of Laidlers have lived on it, worked it and loved it.

“In 1996, Mum and Dad began building Manar Park together, turning their shared dream into a place where families, friends and outdoor lovers could come together, enjoy the property and make memories that would last a lifetime.”

The park became a popular off-road recreational park, hosting very busy motocross and buggy camping weekends.

“Sadly, Manar Park has had to close to the public and now operates only for private events,” Georgia wrote.

“This is because of two legal claims relating to past incidents in which visitors were injured while riding on the property. As the proceedings are still active, we are unable to share any further details about the incidents or the claims.

“These claims have now been going on for four long years. With the park closed, Dad has lost his main source of income, and the legal costs have kept coming. The financial pressure has grown year after year, and we have now reached a point we never imagined.

“We need to be honest with you about how serious this has become.

“Without help, there is a very real chance that Manar Park will be lost forever. The land that has stayed in our family for over a century, the park Mum and Dad built with their own hands, and the place so many of you have made memories could be gone for good.

“If you have ever ridden at Manar Park, brought your kids for their first ride, spent a weekend camping under the stars or simply shared a yarn with Dad by the office, we hope you will consider standing with us now.”

Donations have been flowing in since the fundraiser was launched on September 23, with one generous anonymous donor giving $1000.

The family has set a target of $28,000.
