South Burnett Regional Council has partnered with Golden West Apprenticeships and TAFE Queensland’s Kingaroy campus to provide Work Skills Traineeships for local job seekers.

Funding for the project will come from the State Government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work program.

The South Burnett project will employ 11 trainees for 26 weeks, combining practical construction experience with nationally recognised training.

The project will run from mid-October to mid-March next year.

Work activities will include:

  • Construction of Christmas display boxes
  • Restoration of picnic benches and RUOK benches in parks across the South Burnett
  • Installation of parking bollards at the Wondai Camp Area and Pioneer Park, Nanango
  • Sanding and oiling of timber assets throughout parks in the South Burnett
  • Welding and fabrication of pig traps

The SBRC will supervise the on-site project work and supply the tools and materials.

Trainees will undertake a CPC10120 Certificate I in Construction.

TAFE will provide workshops to support the practical training and theory throughout the project.

The State Government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work project aims to provide skills development, training and job opportunities to unemployed or underemployed Queenslanders.
