Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington spent Australia Day outside her electorate this year … but it was all in a good cause.
Her mother, Robyn Stiller, had been nominated for Wandoan and District Citizen of the Year Award by the Western Downs Regional Council.
And on January 19, the Council announced Robyn had won.
So on Thursday Deb travelled back to the tiny cattle town on the Leichhardt Highway about halfway between Taroom and Miles to watch the official Award presentation with other family members.
“It was wonderful to be there to celebrate with my family,” Deb said.
“Mum is an inspiration and one of my role models when it comes to serving the community.”
The previous evening Mrs Frecklington had attended the South Burnett Australia Day Awards presentations at Nanango State High School’s hall to meet and congratulate local Australia Day Award nominees.
Mrs Frecklington also made the presentation of the South Burnett 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award, which went to former Murgon Shire councillor and Graham House co-founder Col Sippel.
