A year of fundraising by members of the Burnett Branch of the Ulysses motorcycle club provided a boost for four local groups on Saturday.

Club president Rod Kirkman, from Proston, presented cheques for $500 to the Kingaroy Scouts, the Kingaroy Local Ambulance Committee, SBcare and RACQ LifeFlight.

The money was raised at sausage sizzles and raffles.

The cheques were handed over before the start of the club’s regular general meeting which is held in the Respite Room at SBcare.

Scouts District Commissioner David Jamieson said the money would be put towards the cost of sending Kingaroy scouts to the New Zealand jamboree at the end of this year.

Kingaroy Ambulance officer-in-charge Travis Cramb and Debbie-Lee Jackson, from the Local Ambulance Committee, accepted the second cheque.

Travis said the money would be put toward the LAC’s current project, to raise $11,000 to buy a training dummy, known as a “MegaCode Kid”.

The third cheque was presented to LifeFlight representative Nicole Bloom, who travelled across from Toowoomba for the ceremony.

She said the Toowoomba LifeFlight base alone had conducted 410 inter-hospital transfers and attended 70 accidents so far this year.

The final cheque was presented to SBcare CEO Cheryl Dalton.  SBcare is currently raising funds to update toilets in the centre to current disability standards, and also upgrade the hall.
