Police have charged Kilkivan resident James Neale, 42, with murder after an investigation into the death of his uncle in Kilkivan last month.
Just after 3:00pm on April 12, police were called to a Running Creek Road address after reports of a disturbance.
They found 55-year-old Paul Mann with critical stab wounds; Mann died at the scene.
Neale allegedly threatened the attending police with a knife and was subsequently shot.
Neale – who remains in hospital – has now been charged with murder and serious assault of a police officer while armed with a weapon.
He has been remanded in custody.
A police spokesperson said the matter was continuing to be investigated by the Ethical Standards Command with oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.

UPDATE May 17: The charges will be mentioned in Gympie Magistrates Court on July 15.
