The South Burnett Regional Council has awarded $17,080 to 14 of the 23 local community groups who applied to Round 1 of its 2016-17 Community Assistance Grants program.

At Wednesday’s Council meeting, Communities portfolio chair Cr Danita Potter said the successful applicants were:

  • Blackbutt State School, who were given $500 to purchase an Anger Management Resource as part of the school’s “Bursting Angry Blackbutt Bubbles” project
  • Queensland Dairy And Heritage Museum, Murgon – $400 towards their Heritage Working Day for a jumping castle, face painting and plate spinning
  • Kingaroy Men’s Shed – $1500 for tools
  • Kumbia Hall Committee – $500 for a grant writing skills workshop
  • Murgon Bowls Club – $2000 towards the installation of a unisex disabled toilet
  • Murgon Men’s Shed – $1500 towards the purchase of rail carriages to be relocated to the site
  • Nanango Men’s Shed – $1000 for tools
  • South Burnett Peace Of Mind – $650 to support the White Dove Ball
  • Nanango Stamp Club – $500 towards the club’s 23rd annual Stamp Fair
  • Kingaroy Kindergarten – $800 for a “Community Awareness Of Our Community Kindergarten” project
  • Wondai Regional Art Gallery – $2800 for the Wondai Country Fun Run
  • Nanango Wesleyan Methodist Church – $3000 to deliver the Nanango Community Christmas Carols party celebration and hangi
  • Butt Art Gallery – $795 for the purchase of a laptop and software
  • Wondai Cricket Club – $1035 for the purchase of a mower and associated safety equipment

Cr Potter also announced the successful applicants for Round 1 of the 2016-17 Regional Arts Development Fund program, who were awarded a total of $7530:

  • Jumping Ant Arts Inc – $5700 for “Connecting The Elements – Heat, Water & Air”
  • Barambah Branch Photographers – $340 for a “Faces Of The South Burnett” exhibition
  • South Burnett Woodcrafters Inc – $1490 for a workshop on box making and embellishment

Cr Potter reported the RADF committee are currently reviewing the program’s guidelines and want to include some new criteria in future grant rounds.

They are that the applicant invite the RADF committee chair and the media to their workshop or event, and that the cost of materials for a workshop or event be excluded from RADF funding.
