Do you know an outstanding South Burnett resident or community group? If so, the South Burnett Regional Council would like to hear from you.

On Friday the Council opened nominations for the region’s 2017 Australia Day Awards.

The awards provide the community with an opportunity to acknowledge and reward outstanding groups and individuals committed to improving lifestyle experiences in our region.

The award categories have been chosen to give individual communities an equal opportunity to nominate those who have made special contributions to that local community.

2017 Australia Day Award categories will be:

  • South Burnett Citizen of the Year – aged 26 or more at January 26, 2017
  • South Burnett Young Citizen of the Year – aged 16 to 25 at January 26, 2017
  • South Burnett Community Organisation of the Year
  • South Burnett Lifetime Achievement Award – aged 60 or over at January 26, 2017
  • South Burnett Volunteer of the Year
  • South Burnett Junior Cultural Award – aged 17 or under at January 26, 2017
  • South Burnett Senior Cultural Award – aged 18 or over at January 26, 2017
  • Local Achiever Award – awarded to a person who has made an outstanding achievement in the following local communities: Blackbutt-Benarkin, Maidenwell-Bunya Mountains, Nanango, Kumbia, Kingaroy, Wooroolin-Memerambi, Wondai-Tingoora, Hivesville-Proston, Murgon
  • South Burnett Junior Sportsperson – aged 17 or under at January 26, 2017
  • South Burnett Senior Sportsperson – aged 18 or over at January 26, 2017
  • South Burnett Sports Administrator/Coach/Official Award

The official awards ceremony will be held on the eve of Australia Day, Wednesday, January 25 at the Nanango State High School Hall.

Closing date for nominations is Friday, November 11.
