The South Burnett’s dog owners will receive an extra month of dog registration for free later this year to avoid a clash with rates notices

The South Burnett Regional Council’s return to six-monthly rates notices will have an unexpected bonus for dog owners – a free month of registration.

At Wednesday’s Council meeting, Councillors voted to move the dog registration period a month ahead, from November 1-October 31 to December 1-November 30.

Council officers said the reason they recommended the move was that it would avoid a clash with the issue of rate notices.

This would help smooth peak loads at Customer Service Centres.

While the move will effectively give dog owners a free month’s registration, separating rates notices from dog registrations would give customers a better experience overall.

Officers noted that Council has moved dog registration periods several times in the past.

Originally they were from one financial year to the next, but this was moved to September-October to get away from rating periods.

Then when quarterly rates were introduced, dog registrations occurred at the same time rates notices were issued, so dog registrations were moved to November-October.

Councillors agreed with the recommendation.
