ALP Wide Bay candidate Lucy Stanton says that when Murgon and Goomeri residents vote at the upcoming Federal Election, they’ll actually be voting on their digital futures.

She said the NBN rollout across much of Wide Bay was scheduled to begin next year.

Ms Stanton said the Labor Party had pledged to kill off the “mongrel” fibre-to-the-node NBN model (a mix of fibre optic cable and copper) and instead roll out a fibre optic-only solution.

“You should not have to live in Brisbane to have an exciting job in the future and have on offer all the possibilities that a digital future holds,” Ms Stanton said.

“But this can only really happen if the NBN rollout of internet access in Wide Bay uses the best option.

“We cannot afford to make the mistake of getting stuck with Turnbull’s copper NBN that means our region gets left behind.

“This issue matters and we have reached a point in time where the people of Murgon and Goomeri have a choice to make.

“The rollout to towns happens after the election, so we are all voting on what technology gets installed.

“The reality is that jobs into the future will require participation in the digital economy.”
