Smoke billows from a fire near Cherbourg on Sunday afternoon

Piles of burning rubbish sent a large plume of smoke into the air near Cherbourg late on Sunday afternoon.

A QFES spokesperson said four fire crews – from Cherbourg and Murgon – were called to the blaze on Wondai Road about 4:30pm.

The fire, believed to be at the Council tip, included green waste as well as metal and other rubbish.

Heavy machinery was brought in to pull apart the burning piles.

Firefighters had the flames extinguished by 6:00pm but remained on scene to dampen down until about 8:00pm.

They returned to the site on Monday morning to check that the area remained safe.

Two people with ankle injuries were airlifted from the Manar Park off-road recreational park at Boondooma on Saturday morning.

The pair were flown to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

Emergency services were called at 10:48am.

One person was taken by ambulance to Gympie Hospital in a stable condition after a single-vehicle crash near Kilkivan on Friday morning.

Emergency services were called to the corner of Rossmore and Bymount roads just before 9:30am.

A 58-year-old woman reported missing in the Murgon area has been located.

A police spokesperson told southburnett.com.au the woman was found safe and well on Sunday.

The woman had last been seen on Silverleaf Road, Silverleaf, about 8:45 on Saturday morning.
