Division 3 candidate Stan Corbett said he was “shocked” at being listed as a South Burnett Free Press preferred candidate for Saturday’s Council elections.
“I have never been a part of the South Burnett Residents Action Group (SBRAG), and until a few days ago had never seen a copy of the South Burnett Free Press,” Mr Corbett said today.
“I do not understand why the Burnett Free Press have listed me as a preferred candidate for Division 3.”
Mr Corbett said he only became aware he was being endorsed by the South Burnett Free Press two days ago when a friend told him about it.
Soon afterwards another friend was able to supply him with a copy.
Mr Corbett said he thought the publication’s treatment of many candidates running in the up-coming Council elections was regrettable, and thought its treatment of Division 6 Cr Ros Heit was particularly offensive.
“I would like the public to know that I have no association whatsoever with either SBRAG or the South Burnett Free Press,” Mr Corbett said.
“I am a non-aligned candidate and I’m attempting to work with all sections of the community.
“At the end of the day, we’re all in the same boat and we need to get on with one another.”
