Wondai Regional Art Gallery is presenting three exhibitions this month, and held its March opening night last Friday to launch them.

The Main Gallery features works by well-known artist Maree Cameron, who hasn’t been seen at Wondai for several years; the Front Gallery has a selection of new works by Sunshine Coast artist Dale Leach; and the Rear Gallery features works by South Burnett artist Roza Lear.

Maree Cameron’s exhibition – “Moving On” – is her 23rd solo outing, and something of a retrospective.

It features 36 paintings composed in a variety of media that Maree has executed over the past few years.

The diversity of styles and subjects provides viewers with insights into the restless curiosity that compels Maree to constantly experiment with light and materials, as well as the complex and sometimes difficult emotions she’s felt selling her long-time home “Wonga” and moving to Toowoomba.

Maree’s paintings cover everything from still lifes and landscapes to offbeat renderings of cats.

As she told the opening night audience, her motto has always been “what you put in is what you get out”, and she firmly believes that anyone who has a gift should share it with their community.

Dale Leach’s works in the front gallery are based on the creative use of patterning.

A pattern is a template where visual motifs are combined and repeated, and patterning can usually be seen in mosaics, latticework, clothing materials, architecture.

Dale’s works – mostly stylised paintings of birds – are quirky and upbeat.

They drew a lot of interest on opening night – especially since one of the $150 works was the evening’s major raffle prize.

Roza Lear’s “Into The Mist” acrylic in the Rear Gallery walked away with the People’s Choice award on opening night.

Roza said she wanted to paint all her life, but never had the opportunity until about five years ago when she took a few art lessons.

Those lessons had provided the necessary basic knowledge she needed to leap headlong into painting.

Since she started, Roza has tried various mediums but now prefers to work with acrylics – and her “Something For Everyone” exhibition covers a mix of of the various themes she’s pursued since taking up a brush.
