Central Queensland University and the South Burnett Regional Council are in the early stages of forming a partnership to establish a study and research hub in the South Burnett.

Mayor Wayne Kratzmann told Wednesday’s Council meeting the South Burnett Directions steering committee had invited Associate Professor Jennie Barr to discuss education and research opportunities, primarily in the areas of health, agriculture and tourism, at the SBD meeting held on Monday.

He said South Burnett Directions, the CQU and Council were proactively scoping out these opportunities and then Council would consider suitable building space to house a university hub.

Mayor Kratzmann said this could be a real opportunity for anyone pursuing tertiary studies outside TAFE, including mature-age students.

“If there is a will for this to happen, I believe it will,” he said.

“if this can happen sooner rather than later it would be great news for the South Burnett.”
