Council election on March 19

Nominations for candidates for the upcoming Local Government elections will open this Saturday (February 6).

Intending candidates will have until February 15 to submit their nominations to the Electoral Commission of Queensland.

Information is available on the ECQ website for intending candidates.

The election will be held on March 19 and voting is compulsory.

Although some council elections in Queensland will be conducted by full postal ballot (including the North Burnett Regional Council), voting for all councils which cover the South Burnett, ie. the Cherbourg Aboriginal Council, Gympie Regional Council (Tansey, Goomeri, Kilkivan), South Burnett Regional Council and Toowoomba Regional Council (Yarraman, Cooyar), will be by attendance at a polling booth.

Pre-poll voting will be offered. Information about these locations will be published when it is available.

Voters who are unable to attend a polling booth to place their vote on election day or visit a pre-poll centre, can apply for a postal vote.

More information about this procedure is also available on the ECQ website

Returning officers appointed by the ECQ for each Council area will supervise the ballot draws for each election.

The ballot draw for Cherbourg Aboriginal Council has already been set: February 17.
