No one has been charged over an incident where a spray-painted car bonnet was positioned on the footpath to warn oncoming motorists that a speed camera unit was parked on the street.

The incident occurred on December 14 in Youngman Street, Kingaroy, near the showgrounds.

A concerned motorist contacted police about the warning sign.

Officer-in-charge of Kingaroy Police, Senior Sergeant Duane Frank, said police attended the scene and spoke to local residents but were unable to determine who had placed the car bonnet on the footpath.

However, while they were making their inquiries a group of men confronted police and became argumentative, Snr Sgt Frank said.

The Fatal Five

As of December 21, there have been 233 fatalities on Queensland roads, 12 more than at the same time last year.

Snr Sgt Frank urged motorists to keep the Fatal Five uppermost in their minds, especially during the holiday break.

He also warned that police would be doing a large number of roadside breath and drug tests over the next few weeks.

“There is only one thing that will eliminate alcohol and drugs from your body, and that is time,” he said.

“If you’ve had a big night before, the next morning you could well still be over the limit for alcohol.

“And zero is the legal limit for drugs.”
