There’s been a flurry of announcements recently about candidates standing for Council, so most readers would probably have guessed there is an election coming up!

The quadrennial (every four years) Local Government Elections for all Councils in Queensland (including Aboriginal Shire Councils) will be held on Saturday, March 19.

Voting is compulsory.

All eligible electors are required to be enrolled on the electoral roll and vote during at the election.

Electors enrolled for Federal and State elections are automatically enrolled to vote in their local government area.

Electors have until 6:00pm on Friday, March 18, to either enrol to vote or update their enrolment details.

Although some Queensland councils will be conducting postal ballots in March, all our local councils – Cherbourg, Gympie, South Burnett and Toowoomba – will require attendance at polling booths.
