Opener Lehman Brunjes helped to get South Burnett off to a strong start in the first Goodchild Shield game with a half-century to his name

South Burnett will be hoping they repeat their first game success in the Goodchild Shield when they take on Bundaberg on Sunday at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy.

This is the second match in the four-way series between South Burnett, Fraser Coast, Gympie and Bundaberg.

South Burnett notched up an easy win in their first encounter, against Fraser Coast, in November.

Sunday’s game will get underway at 9:30am.

Good news for three young Murgon cricketers …

Renee Irvine and Courtney Sippel, who have been playing the Queensland U15 squad, have both been chosen in the Australian U15 squad, and Tom Carney has been picked for the Queensland School Sport U15 cricket team.

Last Weekend’s Results

In A Grade, Nanango took on Kingaroy RSL Services at Nanango.

Kingaroy won the toss and elected to bat.

The Scorpions bowled them out for 188 in 33.4 overs.

Kingaroy’s top scorers were Chris O’Rourke (57), Tony Dugdell (26 not out) and Nathan Bain (24).

Nanango bowlers shared the spoils: Dylan Gilliland (3/48 off nine overs), Dean Olzard (3/36 off seven) and Brendan Weil (2/31 off 6.4).

Unfortunately for Scorpions’ supporters, Nanango’s success with the ball wasn’t repeated with the bat, although Dean Olzard (29) and Scott Pedron (23) both made starts.

Nanango were all out for 124 in the 32nd over.

Best of the Kingaroy bowlers were Cody Bauer (3/18 off 3.1 overs), Jacob Arden (3/26 off seven) and Nathan Bain (2/33 off seven).

Kingaroy RSL Services won by 64 runs.

The second A Grade game was played at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy where Warriors faced Wondai.

The Wolves were all out for 147 in the 41st over.

Top scorers were Kiall Rowberry (35) and Ashley Louis (25).

Best of the Warriors’ bowlers were Matt Nesbitt (3/14 off nine overs) and Luke Smith (3/36 off eight).

In reply, Warriors made the target in the 39th over, finishing 4/152.

Top scorers were Kieran Askin (62) and Hayden Steene (33 not out).

Rob Robarts (1/9 off five overs) was the most economical of the Wondai bowlers.

Warriors won by six wickets

Murgon Diggers took on Kingaroy RSL Services in their B Grade match.

Diggers finished 7/139.

Top scorers were Jeff Rose (40) and Shane Sippel (24).

Best of the Kingaroy bowlers was Louis Fairbairn (2/11 off three overs).

Kingaroy fell short in reply, finishing 7/118.

Best of the Murgon bowlers were Colin Rowbotham (2/12  off eight overs) and James Brimblecombe (2/17  off six overs).

Wondai overcame Cherbourg in their B Grade game.

Wondai batted first and were 9/202 at the end of their 40 overs.

Evan O’Rourke (63),  Craig Handford (61) and Dan Braxton (22) kept the scoreboard ticking over.

For Cherbourg, Barry Fisher took four wickets (4/39 off eight overs) and Edwin Simpson took three (3/23 off four).

In reply, Cherbourg finished just short at 9/184.

Top scorers were David Warner (41), Tom Langton (29), Nev Kratzmann (28) and Edwin Simpson (22).

Best of the Wolves’ bowlers were Michael Evans (4/40 off eight overs) and Mark Riddell (2/19 off eight).
