Dog Registration
Dog registrations – normally issued in September – will be issued on November 30 this year

Dog registration renewal notices will be sent out on November 30 – two months later than usual – the South Burnett Regional Council said today.

Dog owners will have until the close of business on Friday, January 15 to pay their renewal notices.

Manager of Environment and Waste Services Craig Patch said Council wanted to reassure dog owners that pets already registered are still considered to be registered during this period, as long as any fees are paid by the due date.

“Some people are concerned they will be fined because their registration is due, and their renewal notice has not been sent out,” Mr Patch said.

“This is not the case. As long as dogs are wearing their registration tag, we will make every effort to contact the owners if their animals get out.

“Even if they are not wearing their tags, pets taken to the RSPCA or vets are routinely checked for microchips, and owners can be tracked down and contacted that way.

“That is another reason why we encourage owners to microchip their pets.”

Dog registration fees allow Council to reunite pets quickly with their owners if they are lost, and provide services like off-leash parks and litter bins.

Details about dog registration fees can be found on Counil’s website or by contacting a Council Customer Service Centre.
