Andrew Nichol, from Nichol’s Printing in Kingaroy, with young Hugh Wyvill and the raffle tickets

October 21, 2015

A bid by a young Kingaroy boy to raise funds for a friend stricken with cancer received an unexpected boost this week.

Hugh Wyvill, 10,  has been raising money to assist Bailey Russell who has been training alongside him at his martial arts school.

Bailey, 16, was diagnosed with Ewings sarcoma earlier this year.

Hugh’s first effort was a pizza drive at the South Burnett Regional Council where both his parents work. This raised an incredible $1000 for Bailey.

This inspired Hugh to try another fundraiser, this time a raffle.

He prepared emails to send to various sporting personalities seeking donations of items to raffle “with a bit of help from mum and dad”.

“Hughie typed up the emails and we helped find the right addresses to send them to,” his mum Samantha Dunstan said.

Hugh then organised to get the raffle tickets printed.

He approached Nichol’s Printing in Kingaroy who agreed to do the job at a discount rate.

But when Hugh went to pick up the 1000 tickets this week, Nichol’s Printing owner Andrew Nichol waived the whole charge.

“That’s been a big help,” Samantha said.

First prize in Hugh’s raffle is a football boot signed by Johnathan Thurston, mounted in a case. Second prize is a special limited edition Relay For Life purple cricket ball signed by Carl Rackemann, and third prize is a Southern Stars players hat signed by Holly Ferling.

There are also a string of other prizes to be won.

Tickets are $5 each, or five for $20 or 10 for $30.

They are available at:

  • Dunstan’s SBTV, Shop 8, 119 Youngman Street, Kingaroy (in the industrial estate behind the Shell garage)
  • Mark Smith Menswear, 87 Lamb Street, Murgon
  • Local Appliance Rental (old Retravision Shop), 98 Lamb Street, Murgon

Or phone Samantha  on 0484-612-924 (after hours).
