Two months of public fund-raising for Wondai’s Charlotte The Emu memorial appeal will hit another milestone on Friday morning, December 12.

CROW-FM 90.7 will be holding an on-air auction of donated goods between 6:00am and 9:00am.

The auction is the latest fund-raiser for the Charlotte The Emu Memorial Committee, which is aiming to raise $10,000 to erect a permanent, sold steel statue of the former town emu in the heart of Wondai.

Collection tins for the appeal were distributed to businesses in Wondai, Murgon and Kingaroy in late September; and last month the group held a successful open-air screening of “Red Dog” in Coronation Park which generated more than $700 towards the project.

Charlotte’s statue is currently being built by award-winning Kilkivan metal sculptor Dan Davie, and is expected to be unveiled at a public function in Coronation Park on Australia day.

Friday morning’s radiothon will offer 14 items donated by local businesses to assist the appeal.

Items that will be up for bids are:

  • A Christmas tree with lights attached donated by Sunshine Mitre 10 in Kingaroy
  • One night’s accommodation for two people in a studio unit at Dandabah in the Bunya Mountains, donated by The Bunyas

CROW-FM station manager Chris “Corky” Corcoran will be leading the Friday morning auction and members of the Memorial Committee will be manning the phones.

Corky said the appeal is now well its way to the target, but still needs more to meet the Committee’s goal of having the monument entirely funded by the South Burnett community.
