Numbers were less than expected but that didn’t stop the people who rolled up from having a good time at the Freedom Family Fun Day organised by anti-VLAD campaigner Grant Newson at Wooroolin on Saturday.
Grant told southburnett.com.au everyone “had a ball” with numbers picking up to about 150 as night fell.
Many people camped overnight.
The main act, tribute band ZZ Topzz, proved popular after a day of music which included Muddy Flats, Chris Webbe, Noise Burner, The Cameron Complex and Paul Robert Burton.
The day had been designed as a fundraiser for the High Court appeal against the State Government’s “Vicious Lawless Association Disestablishment” laws which have targeted outlaw motorcycle clubs throughout Queensland.
All the bands donated their time.
Grant said the gate takings probably wouldn’t cover the costs so he would be “paying it off” for some time but that hasn’t deterred him from holding another festival.
“We had compliments about the food, the grounds, the music. It was just the number of people,” he said.
“But maybe it was good to have a smaller crowd at the first one.
“If we do it again, we will know what to improve.”
Acting Senior Sergeant Brad Johannesen, from Kingaroy Police, said “no issues” had been reported from the day.
