The children at the South Burnett Child Care Centre in Kingaroy were visited recently and entertained by published author and cartoonist David Daniel as part of the centre’s focus on language and literacy.

David spoke to the children about how he draws cartoons and asked the children to join him by marking the paper and then he completed the drawing.

The room was filled with laughter as each animal that David drew was fitted with reading glasses, big smiles and nobbly knees.

David has been retired for the past eight years from the DPI.

When not writing or drawing, he fills his days with sailing, travelling, caring for his grandchildren and building a new home for his wife Heather.

David has used the characters he meets as a basis for some of his “comical look at life stories” in his books.

He captured the interest of the children as he read his three children’s stories.

From his conversations with the children we can see some budding artists and story writers.
