Police have a new weapon in their arsenal to target speeding motorists in the South Burnett so lead-foot drivers had better beware.

In the past five days in Kingaroy alone, more than 120 speeding tickets have been issued.

The drivers caught by the new TruCAM speed equipment won’t know they have been nabbed until the fines start arriving in the mail.

Officer-in-charge of Kingaroy Police, Senior-Sergeant Duane Frank, said the hand-held radar device took photos of the speeding vehicles.

As well as the Kingaroy tickets, 38 tickets were issued on Bowman Road at Blackbutt – all to drivers speeding in a 60km/h zone.

Snr Sgt Frank said 22 drivers had been detected speeding in Youngman Street, Kingaroy, on Friday while it was raining.

On Saturday, 31 vehicles had been detected speeding on Haly Street East, during a period of heavy rain.

Many of the speeds were 20km or more over the speed limit.

Snr Sgt Frank urged drivers to slow down, especially in the wet when there was reduced visibility and slippery roads meant increased stopping distances.

Over the past two weeks, 691 speeding tickets have been issued to drivers in the Dalby-Burnett Patrol Group – the police area which includes Bell, Blackbutt, Cecil Plains, Cherbourg, Chinchilla, Cooyar, Dalby, Jandowae, Kingaroy, Kumbia, Meandarra, Millmerran, Murgon, Nanango, Peranga, Proston, Tara, Wondai, and Yarraman.

Snr Sgt Frank said the majority of these tickets had been issued on the Warrego Highway between Dalby and Chinchilla.

Both marked and unmarked police vehicles were used in the operations.

“This enforcement will be continuing,” Snr Sgt Frank said.
