A man in 50s has been airlifted by the RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter from rugged terrain in the Woolooga National Park after suffering severe back pain.

The man had been on the second day of a two-day trek with a group of fellow walkers when he succumbed to the extremely painful condition and could no longer stand.

“Due to the isolated location, swift access could only be made by air,”  RACQ CareFlight Rescue Aircrewman Scott Reeman said.

“He was in a lot of pain, but was in good spirits.”
