A woman has been treated in hospital for injuries to her arms and legs after she was bitten by a dog while walking along a Kingaroy footpath.

The attack occurred on the corner of Webster and Moonya streets at 4:00pm last Wednesday.

An ambulance was called to take the woman to Kingaroy Hospital.

The South Burnett Regional Council has seized the animal, believed to be a Staffy cross, but no decision has been made yet about its fate.

The Council’s manager for environment services Craig Patch said today that although Council had custody of the animal, the owners had not yet technically surrendered the dog.

If they did so, council would have it euthanased.

Otherwise Council would have the choice of either having it declared a dangerous dog – which would require the owners to pay much higher registration fees and arrange suitable fencing – or issue a destruction notice.

“Owning a declared dangerous dog is an expensive exercise which Council has done so by choice as we don’t want these animals in our community,” Mr Patch said.
