Kingaroy’s Jemima Larkin is “a wonderful, natural, warm and cheerful early childhood educator”, and now she has an award from the Rotary Club of Kingaroy to prove it.

Jemima, who works at the Goodstart Early Learning Centre in Ivy Street, Kingaroy, has been named the club’s inaugural “Pride of Workmanship” award winner.

Each month, the public has been invited to nominate an outstanding individual from within the Kingaroy region in a particular work category.

The July vocation was “Child Care Worker”.  This month it is “Transport” and the September category will be “Health Care”.

Jemima has been working at the Goodstart Early Learning Centre for four years. The centre looks after up to 75 children per day.

She is in the “toddler room” section with children aged from 15 months to two years.

“I love it here,” she said. “It’s a nice group of people to work with.”

Her nomination for the Rotary award noted how Jemima had grown and developed in her role as a childcare worker.

“She has great insight into children and always puts the child’s needs first,” the nomination read.

“Jemima loves children and people. She works hard and always tries to lift the spirits of those around her.

“There are many parts to an early childhood educator’s day that require them to be a role model at all times; caring, encouraging, enhancing understanding and providing a safe and stimulating environment.

“Jemima’s creativity, fun, laughter and play does all this and more for children of all ages in her care.”

Jemima was educated locally, at Kingaroy State School and home-schooled. She then earned a Certificate III in Childcare at Kingaroy TAFE.
