Michael Chapman and his children Sadie, 4, and Pharrell, 9, loved the books they got from Barambah PaCE’s Jennifer Juderjahn during the school holidays; she gave out more than 50 on that day and will be back around each Tuesday to swap them with new ones

An effort to get every parent to read to their young children for 15 minutes a day has been given a boost with the donation of hundreds of books.

Kingaroy-Taabinga Rotary Club, Kingaroy Library and a Kingaroy State School parent have donated the books to the Barambah PaCE mobile library which operates in Cherbourg.

Another cheap supply has been sourced from Lifeline and the Lets Read foundation established by The Smith Family also helped by providing reading bags, Let’s Read hats and short videos on how to read to your children.

Barambah PaCE coordinator Marcus Priaulx said the support was greatly appreciated by the community.

“We’ve now hired a great new assistant,  Jennifer Juderjahn, who will run the library each Tuesday morning ,” he said.

“Depending on time and demand, we may well stretch that to other mornings because it’s proven one of the keys to a great life of learning is for parents to read to their children from the day they’re born.

“That 15 minutes a day can make the world of difference to your child’s future.”
