Well-known country race-caller Harold Kirwin was remembered at a Requiem Mass celebrated in Toowoomba this morning.

Harold, who was born in Kingaroy, died aged 92 on March 26.

He began his racing career as an apprentice jockey but switched to race-calling because of weight issues.

He started calling at Kumbia while living on the family farm nearby.

In 1958, he moved with his wife, Joan, to Toowoomba.

He combined a career of race calling around Darling Downs tracks with his day job at the Wheat Board.

The Mass to celebrate Harold’s life was held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
