The countdown has begun for the South Burnett’s new Australian Rules footy team to take to the paddock.

The Saints seniors will be playing a pre-season game at Pomona next Sunday and then the following Saturday, they’ll play another trial at Bribie Island.

Round 1 of the competition will get under way on April 6 when the South Burnett Saints take on Lockyer Valley at Gatton.

Coach Steve Humbler told southburnett.com.au today he had a squad of about 30 players to choose from for the games.

“I’ll be rotating the blokes around through the games,” he said.

Skill levels vary from players who have Australian Rules experience – including former members of the Kingaroy-Nanango Jets – to virtual newcomers to the game.

Coaches have also been appointed for U8s, U10s, U12s and U14s teams.
