Holly Ferling playing for Kingaroy RSL against Nanango in November … now she’s packing her bags and heading for India

Kingaroy State High School student Holly Ferling has been selected in the 15-player Australian squad for the ICC Women’s World Cup to be played in India from January 31 to February 17.

Women’s National Selection Panel Chair of Selectors Julie Savage said they had chosen a powerful and well-balanced squad.

The full Southern Stars squad is Jodie Fields (Qld), Alex Blackwell (NSW), Jess Cameron (Vic), Sarah Coyte (NSW), Holly Ferling (Qld), Rachael Haynes (NSW), Alyssa Healy (NSW), Julie Hunter (Vic), Jess Jonassen (Qld), Meg Lanning (Vic), Erin Osborne (NSW), Ellyse Perry (NSW). Megan Schutt (SA), Lisa Sthalekar (NSW)  and Elyse Villani (Vic).

The matches will be played at three venues in Mumbai.

Murgon Colts won by six wickets in a rain-affected B Grade cricket match against Wondai Wolves at Wondai Sports Ground on Saturday.

Wolves batted first and made 170 after 33 overs.

Best of the Wondai batsmen were Clayton Graham 40, Evan O’Rourke 25 and Geoff Wallis 24.

For Colts, Barry Fisher took 4/45 off eight overs and Dallas Bond 2/17 off 5.3 overs.

In reply, Murgon were 4/121 in the 28th over when the rain hit and the covers went on.

When both teams came back, the revised total was 146 with 25 runs needed off four overs.

The Colts made the target for the loss of four wickets.

Best of the Murgon batsmen were Nigel Daisy 52 (n/o) and Tom Langton (36).

For Wondai, James Cameron took 1/17 off 6.3 overs, and Matt Stumer 1/17 off six overs.

Murgon Magic defeated Murgon Diggers in the B Grade local derby played at Murgon.

Diggers batted first and made 8/188 off their 40 overs.

Top scorers for Diggers were Steven Alexander (49), Tavis Hartwig (45), Ryan Stower  (29) and Nathan Nixon (22)

Magic bowlers were Tom Patton, 3/29 off eight overs; Mitchell Pratt, 2/3 off  three overs; Kieran Thompson, 1/13 off three overs; Daniel Thompson 1/24 off three overs and Lehman Brunjes, 1/28 off five overs.

In reply, Magic scored 7/191 off 29.2 overs.

Top scorers were Daniel Thompson (73), Stuart Robinson (44) and Lehman Brunjes (27).

Diggers’ bowlers were Amanda Anderson, 3/11 off 2.2 overs; Nathan Nixon,  2/24 off seven overs; Tavis Hartwig,  2/26 off seven overs.

Warriors won by seven wickets against Kingaroy RSL in their B Grade match played at Kingaroy State School.

RSL were dismissed for 101, with top scorers Jacob Heidrich (42) and Taylor Herrmann (22).

Best of the Warriors’ bowlers were Ian Haak , 4/13 off six overs; Brodie Dionysius, 2/22 off five overs; Hayden Wieck, 2/31 off five overs.

In reply, Warriors made the target for the loss of three wickets.

Top scorers were Steve Price (57 n/o), Steve Lapthorne (18) and Peter Sorensen (13 n/o).

Best of the RSL bowlers were Adam Geiger, 1/10 off four overs; and Jacob Heidrich, 1/32 off six overs.

In the A Grade at Murgon, Kingaroy RSL defeated Murgon Crusaders with five balls to go.

Anthony Eden led the batting charge for RSL, scoring 105.
