Rain – and the complex Duckworth-Lewis system of calculating scores – has handed victory to the NSW Breakers over the Queensland Fire in the Women’s National Cricket League title played at the Sydney Cricket Ground today.

The Queensland batters posted 232 runs for a loss of seven wickets after being sent in by NSW.

Fire captain Jodie Fields led the way with an unbeaten century (102 n/o).

In reply, the Breakers were 4/135 after 27 overs when heavy rain stopped the game.

The NSW batters had upped the run rate in the last few overs as it became apparent play would be interrupted.

When the game was called off by the umpires, NSW’s score was 15 runs ahead of the required Duckworth-Lewis target of 120 which meant NSW had clinched its eighth straight national title.

Extras proved expensive for the Fire, with 11 wides added to the NSW total.

Queensland wicket-takers were Delissa Kimmince 2/16 off five overs, Jemma Barsby 1/12 off two overs and Jude Coleman 1/23 off six overs.

Holly Ferling ended with 0/38 off five overs.
