Today is World Mental Health Day … and usually that would mean a focus on people with a mental illness.

But there’s another side to mental illness and that’s the toll that it can take on the frontline staff working with clients.

So to mark Mental Health Day today, a lunch was held in Kingaroy for the people who work in the field and are often stretched almost to breaking point.

It was to “celebrate successes, share stories, resources and have an opportunity to network”.

It was organised by the same team that put on the recent RU OK? Day, ie Centacare South Burnett, Stanwell, Medicare Local and the South Burnett Regional Council.

Care providers and representatives from the sponsoring organisation gathered in St Mary’s Hall for a lunch prepared by the Kingaroy Community Kitchen.

The kitchen is group of like-minded individuals who come together on a regular basis to socialise and cook affordable and nutritious meals.

It is part of the Healthy Communities initiative organised by RHealth in conjunction with the South Burnett Regional Council.
