The South Burnett Regional Council is about to start work on the next stage of developing a South Burnett Planning Scheme.

Each of the former local government areas of Kingaroy, Murgon, Nanango and Wondai are currently administered by individual Planning Schemes that control land use and development.

“The development of one Planning Scheme for the region is an important step in achieving consistent regional-based planning for the South Burnett,” portfolio holder Cr Cheryl Dalton said.

“More importantly though, it will give the community the opportunity to have their say on the future direction of land use and development across our region.”

The new Council’s first official meeting on May 23 resolved to appoint Brisbane-based consultancy Craven Ovenden to work with Council’s planning staff to create the new Planning Scheme.

Council says they will consult with stakeholders, convene community meetings and liaise with State Government agencies to develop the Scheme.
