South Burnett Australia Day Awards - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Regional Council will be presenting the region's 12th annual Australia Day Awards at a special ceremony at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy at 6:00pm this evening. The awards provide the community with an opportunity to acknowledge outstanding groups and individuals committed to improving the lifestyle experience of our region, and the award categories that have been chosen give all the region's communities equal opportunity to nominate individuals and/or groups who've made special contributions to the area. Australia Day Ambassador Emeritus Professor Ken Donald AO will be a special guest. Everyone is welcome to attend this free event, and the presentations will be followed by a light supper. South Burnett Speedway - Kingaroy
The second day of the three-day Kings Royal, the biggest annual event on the South Burnett Speedway calendar, will be held at Kingaroy Showgrounds tonight. Racing will get underway at 4:00pm and this year a bumper field of top drivers have nominated. Tonight's program will feature the second round of the IBRP Kings Royal Modified Sedans, plus heats and finals of Street Stocks and Modlites. Admission is $25 for adults, $15 for students (with ID) and aged or disability pensioners and $65 for a family of two adults and up to three students (children 12 and under are free). Three day passes are also available at discounted rates, and there'll be canteen facilities operating onsite and camping available, too. The full event program can be downloaded here (5.3Mb PDF)
Wooroolin Warriors T20 Fundraiser - Kingaroy
A fundraiser for the Wooroolin Warriors cricket team's end-of-season trip will be held at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 2:00pm this afternoon. The day will kick off with a match between the Kallindale Warriors and Maidenwell, and will be followed by a second match between the Southern District Devils and a combined XI made up from the first match, then concluded with a BBQ and raffles. Everyone is welcome!
Mozzie & The Frog - Kingaroy
Entertainers Mozzie & The Frog will be performing at the Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street, Kingaroy from 7:00pm to around 11:00pm tonight. Admission is free. More details from the RSL on (07) 4162-1755.
Kingaroy SES Open Day
Kingaroy SES will be holding an Open Day at their headquarters in Glendon Street, Kingaroy (just next to Kingaroy X-Ray) from 9:00am to 3:00pm today. The event will be of interest to anyone thinking about joining this vital community service - which provides assistance during floods, fires and other natural disasters - but anyone who'd like to check out the group's facilities and equipment and chat with SES volunteers is very welcome to come along, too. Kingaroy Bowls Club Bingo
The Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
Pig On A Spit Night - Maidenwell
Maidenwell's historic Maidenwell Hotel will be holding its monthly Pig On A Spit evening from 6:00pm until late tonight (dinner is served from 6:00pm to 8:00pm). There'll be live entertainment from popular South Burnett entertainer Natalie Fenton and lots of cold beer, along with more pork than you can poke a fork at, all served up with with roast potatoes, pumpkin, corn, peas, carrots, applesauce and gravy. The hotel also has roast beef and spit roasted chicken on the menu for those who prefer to go non-pork, plus a vegetarian option (ie vegies only), plus Little Butcher meat tray raffles to help raise funds for Tanduringie State School. Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run/walk at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. The Nanango parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run along the Ros Gregor Trail at Tipperary Flat next to the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango at 7:00am this morning. Wave The Aussie Rock Flag - Kingaroy
The Commercial Hotel at the corner of Haly and Glendon Streets, Kingaroy will be hosting the popular Mr Q from 8:30pm until past midnight tonight. Tony Cisneros, his brother Gavin and Craig Walsh will be performing a tribute to everything that's great about Aussie rock with their usual verve, and a fun night out is pretty well guaranteed. The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Australia Day Long Weekend - Kilkivan
The Kilkivan Bush Camping and Caravan Park at 577 Rossmore Road in Kilkivan will be hosting the second day of their Australia Day Weekend today, kicking off with a pancake breakfast this morning and followed by their inaugural Australian Bush Cooking Festival that will include bush cooking demos and a Best Damper and Best Campfire Dessert competitions (judged by a panel of random guests), rounded off by a Lamb Camp Oven Dinner tonight (pre-bookings for this are essential). There'll also be artist markets and workshops running in the grounds all day, along with activities for children including tie dyeing, a slime lab, jewellery making and mandala rocks.
