South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
79th Annual Goomeri Show
The 79th annual Goomeri Show will be held at the Goomeri Showgrounds on the Burnett Highway at Goomeri from 6:00am this morning until late tonight. This year's Show will feature a big range of equestrian events (from 8:00am); cattle judging (from 8:30am); stud and prime beef, led steer and heifer competitions in the main ring (judging starts at 11:00am); and pavilion entries across eight different categories. The Show's Official Opening will occur at 2:00pm and there'll also be a Pet Parade (at 3:00pm); free face painting for children (3:30pm to 7:30pm); and a big Bendigo Bank Fireworks display at 8:00pm. Guests can also enjoy a Sideshow Alley with fun amusements; a Stockman's Challenge; and Eljay's Freestyle Motorcycle and Bicycle Stunt Show, which will be giving three nail-biting performances at 2:15pm, 4:15pm and 7:00pm. The Show Society's bar will be operating all day and into the night as well, and there'll be plenty of food stalls in the grounds including the famous Goomeri Lions Chip Van. Admission to this year's Show is still just $12 for adults, $5 for high school children, $30 for a family and free for under-12s if accompanied by an adult. Wondai Country Markets
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery's popular monthly Wondai Country Markets will be operating at Coronation Park in Wondai's CBD from 7:00am to 12:00 noon today. Today's markets will feature stallholders selling fresh fruit and vegetables, arts and crafts, useful knick-knacks and clothing. There'll also be live entertainment; lots and lots of other stalls selling great gifts and goodies; and special hand-made treasures from local artisans available from the Gallery's new "Studio" building just a short stroll across the park. The BBQs will also be firing up from 6:45am to dish out hearty breakfasts for early bargain hunters. Proston Golden Spurs Campdraft
The second day of the three day Proston Golden Spurs Campdraft will kick off at the Proston Showgrounds on the Proston-Boondooma Road about a kilometre west of Proston early this morning with the first round of the Novice draft, three children's events and the finals of Friday's Charity Maiden, before concluding on Sunday with the first round of the Open; the finals of the Novice; the second round of the Open; and then the Open finals. The Spurs is always a big event and spectators are welcome to come and watch the action for free. There'll also be limited refreshments available in the grounds.
Acoustics At The Palace
The Palace Hotel in Drayton Street, Nanango will be holding an Acoustic Open Mic Afternoon from 2:00pm until late tonight. This is the Palace's first acoustic outing in some time, and a perfect chance for budding artists, closet soloists and/or the next Freddy Mercury to come along and make their mark. Nanango Mini Market
The Nanango Mini Market, which runs on the 4th Saturday of each month (except January) outside the Churchyard Opp Shop at the corner of Drayton and Burnett Streets in Nanango, will be running from 7:00am to around noon this morning. Apart from offering great bargains at great prices, the markets also have a $2 sausage sizzle, $1 soft drinks and gold coin donation tea and coffee if you get peckish. Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at the old railway station building at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for its regular Saturday morning meeting today, kicking off with a cuppa at 9:00am. Pink Stumps Cricket Day - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Junior Cricket Club will be holding a Pink Stumps Cricket Day at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy (just next to Beangrowers) from 8:00am to 5:00pm today to help raise funds for the McGrath Foundation's breast care nurses, as well as awareness about breast cancer. There'll be matches between eight local teams from Kingaroy and Nanango between 8:00am and 4:30pm, along with a $2 BBQ lunch break between 11:30am and 12:30pm, and raffles. Later on, the day will be capped off with the Kingaroy Junior Cricket Association's end of season presentations at 4:30pm, plus a BBQ dinner. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to wear as much pink as possible.
Barry Stead Memorial Day - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Junior Motorcycle Speedway Club will be holding a special Barry Stead Memorial Day on the main oval of Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 10:00am this morning (when racing gets underway) until around 1:00pm. Today's event honours one of the club's most loyal fans and PeeWees, SuperLites, 125cc and 250cc bikes will all be in action. If you enjoy motorcycle speedway it's going to be a great morning's entertainment. The club is for young motorcycle riders aged 4 to 16 and spectators are very welcome. More details? Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. Help Support Elf - Kingaroy
A fundraising morning to help support Elf - a disabled dog - will be held at Sunshine Mitre 10 in Rogers Drive, Kingaroy from 8:30am to 12:30pm this morning. The event will feature discounted mobile hydrobaths for pets and a $7 pet nail clipping service; hand-made dog pyjamas and bandanas; paw clay modelling; doggie goodie bags; home-made dog treats; KPR merchandise; an Easter raffle; and a sausage sizzle. Everyone - especially dog lovers - are very welcome.
Saturday Soccer - Kingaroy and Wondai
The South Burnett's 2019 football season will get underway today, with Women's Division and 1st Division games in Kingaroy and Wondai (planned 2nd Division games won't be held today due to player shortages). In Kingaroy, home teams Wests and Gunners will test their mettle at Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street, with the Women's Division playing at 3:15pm, followed by 1st Division at 5:00pm. And in Wondai, the Barambah Bears will play arch rivals Nanango Panthers at the Wondai soccer fields off the highway just north of the Wondai Sportsgrounds, with Women's Division taking to the park at 2:00pm, followed by 1st Division at 3:30pm. A canteen will be running at both venues and spectators are very welcome!
Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (just next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Greek Festival - Nanango
Nanango RSL will be celebrating all things Greek from noon to around 7:30pm today with the South Burnett's first-ever Greek Festival. It will feature Greek-themed entertainment, a Greek long table lunch with games and prizes to be won, Greek circle dancing and - of course! - lots of Grappa and Ouzo. Guests are encouraged to wear togas (or other Greek outfits) to get into the Hellenic spirit, and places at the long table lunch are limited so a booking is highly advisable. Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy

Cricket Preliminary Final - Kumbia
The South Burnett's B-grade cricket season is very close to reaching its high point, and today the Kumbia Rattlers will face the Nanango Scorpions at the Kumbia Cricket Grounds in Gordon Street in a sudden death preliminary final to decide who'll face Blackbutt's Timbertowners at Blackbutt next week. The match will get underway at 12:30pm and spectators are very welcome.
DJ iLLP - Kingaroy
DJ iLLp will be spinning the platters in the beer garden at the Commercial Hotel at the corner of Glendon and Haly Streets, Kingaroy from 9:30pm until late tonight. Admission is free. More details from the hotel on (07) 4162-1380.

Community Workshop - Yarraman
Toowoomba Regional Council will be holding the first of two community workshops at the Yarraman Memorial Hall in Browne Street, Yarraman from 1:00pm to 4:00pm today to discuss its 15-year review of the region's Planning Scheme. The workshop is a chance for Yarraman residents to have a say on the future of their town, and all interested people are very welcome to attend (afternoon tea will be supplied). Note: A second workshop will be held at the same venue and time on Saturday, April 6.
Saturday Rugby League - Kingaroy, Wondai and Cherbourg
The South Burnett's 2019 Rugby League season will also get underway today, with junior and senior games in Kingaroy and Wondai, and junior games in Cherbourg. In Kingaroy, the Red Ants will play Murgon's Mustangs at T.J. O'Neill oval in Youngman Street, with U6/U7s playing at 8:00am; U8/U9s at 9:00am; U10s at 10:00am; U11s at 11:00am; U12s at noon; U14s at 1:00pm; and U16s at 2:10pm. At 3:30pm, the U18s South Burnett Eagles will play Highfields in the first round of the Toowoomba U18s competition, and this will be followed by an A-Grade clash between the Red Ants and the Mustangs at 5:00pm. In Wondai, the Wolves will play the Central Burnett Brumbies in U6s at 9:30am; U7/U8s at 11:15am; U9/U10s at 12:15pm; U11/U12s at 1:15 pm; and U14s at 2:15pm. These junior games will be followed by an A-grade match between the Wondai Wolves and Cherbourg's Hornets at 3:30pm. Finally, in Cherbourg, there'll be a day of junior footy at Jack O'Chin Oval between Nanango and Cherbourg, with U6/U8s playing at 9:00am; U7/U9s at 10:00am; U10s at 11:00am; U11s at noon; and U12s at 1:00pm.
Bell Triathlon
Runners who'd like to get in shape for the Maidenwell Running Festival, the Wondai Country Running Festival or the Murgon Marathon should head to Bell today. Bell State School and the Western Downs Regional Council will be running the Bell Triathlon at the school's oval in 90 Dennis Street, Bell from 6:00am to around 1:00pm today. The triathlon will offer individual, team, junior and nipper events over distances ranging from 25m to 20km, with registration fees ranging from $10 to $60. The event is a fundraiser for the school's swimming club and Triathlon bookings can be made online. However, there's no fee to be a spectator and everyone is welcome.
DJ Ty - Kingaroy

Saturday Social Bowls - Proston
The Proston Bowls Club in Murphy Way (behind Proston Rural) will be holding social bowls games from 2:30pm this afternoon. Names should be in by 2:00pm and new players are very welcome - just wear soft flat-soled shoes or thongs, and bring along a hat and sunscreen. The games will be followed by a BBQ later in the day.
