South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
96th Annual Murgon Show
The gates will open at the Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street, Murgon at 7:00am this morning for the main day of the 96th Annual Murgon Show. This year's Show will feature a very big range of cattle and horse events and things will move into full gear early on with judging for dairy and stud beef cattle, followed by poultry judging. There'll also be horse events for hacks and show jumping and a Stockman's Challenge in the main arena; a bumper Sideshow Alley; pavilion and trade exhibits (open from 9:00am); and all the fun of a great Aussie fair. This year's Murgon Show will be officially opened at around 1:15pm in front of the grandstand, followed by the Grand Parade at 2:00pm. There'll also be a spectacular fireworks display mid-way through the evening at around 7:00pm. Other things to look out for this year include a Ute Show; Viv's Animal Farm; Luke's Reptile Kingdom; Tyrone's Circus; a Fashion Parade; chainsaw racing; and a Rodeo at 6:00pm in the evening. Admission to this year's Show is $10 for adults; $8 for concessions; $5 for high school students; or $25 for a family (2 adults plus 2 high school age children). Nanango Past Residents Reunion
The Nanango & District Past and Present Residents group will be holding their annual reunion in the gardens of Ringsfield House at 45 Alfred Street, Nanango from 9:30am to around 2:00pm today. All current and former residents are invited along, but please BYO chair because seating is limited. A canteen will be operating and the Ringsfield Cafe will be open as usual (so there's no need to pre-order food), but guests are also welcome to BYO picnic basket if they wish. More details? RSVPs? Native Plants Queensland AGM - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy branch of Native Plants Queensland will be holding its Annual General Meeting in Moore Street, Kingaroy at 9:00am this morning, kicking off with a morning tea and followed by a normal general meeting. Blackbutt Gala Dinner
A Gala Dinner will be held at the Blackbutt Memorial Hall in Bowman Road, Blackbutt this evening as a fundraiser for the hall and several Blackbutt community groups. Guests at this lavish function will get to enjoy a great two course dinner, raffles, guest speakers, live entertainment and an auction (EFTPOS will be available for the auction). There'll also be a cash bar operating all night. The bar opens at 4:00pm and dinner will be served at 6:00pm. Tickets are $45 per person or $360 for a table of 8, and are strictly limited. They can be booked by phoning Jackie on 0438-785-009. Note: A recovery morning featuring food, music and games will be held at the hall tomorrow from 10:00am.
St Patrick's Day - Kumbia and Kingaroy
St Patrick's Day celebrations will be held (a day early!) at the Kumbia Catholic Church from 11:00am to 3:00pm today. The Geranium Garden Day will include a pet parade and blessing and sausage sizzle. Everyone is welcome! In the evening, a casual Irish-themed evening will be held at St Mary's Parish Hall next to the church at 15 Albert Street, Kingaroy, from 6:00pm. There'll be Irish music and food, and, again, everyone is welcome!
Mr Q - Nanango
Popular South Burnett band Mr Q will be performing at the Palace Hotel in Drayton Street, Nanango from 7:30pm until late tonight. Admission is free. More details? Phone the hotel on (07) 4163-1287.
World's Greatest Shave - Kingaroy
The Commercial Hotel at the corner of Glendon and Haly Streets, Kingaroy will be holding a World's Greatest Shave from noon to 4:00pm this afternoon. Barmaid Leah Brownlee will be shaving all her hair off in the name of this good cause, and she'll be accompanied by music from Alex The Frenchman and crazy antics from the Com.Pub crew. You can book a table for lunch to watch all the fun by phoning the hotel on (07) 4162-1380. Later in the day - at 5:30pm - Laura McGreevy ("Laudy") will be performing in the beer garden until about 9:00pm, after which DJ's Direx and iLLp will take over and spin platters in The Nest until the wee small hours. Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at the old railway station building at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for its regular Saturday morning meeting today, kicking off with a cuppa at 9:00am. World's Greatest Shave - Kingaroy
Infiniti Hair at 173 Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy, will be holding a World's Greatest Shave from 9:00am to 3:00pm today to help raise money for blood cancer research. Several women who've lost close family members to leukaemia will be going under the clippers, and gold coin donations are very welcome.
Elay Music - Kingaroy

Saturday Cricket - Wondai and Blackbutt
The South Burnett's B-grade cricket season is almost over, and two matches being played today will decide who plays in the Grand Final. In Wondai, Murgon will play Nanango in a sudden death Elimination Final where the winning team will go on to the Grand Final, and the losing team will get to watch it from the stands; and in Blackbutt, Blackbutt will play the Kumbia Rattlers at the Blackbutt cricket grounds, with the winner going on to the Grand Final and the loser playing the winner of today's Elimination Final to decide who the other Grand Final team will be. Both matches are scheduled to start at 12:30pm, weather permitting.
Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
