Remembrance DayToday is Remembrance Day and a number of public services will be held throughout the South Burnett at 11:00am this morning to mark it. Everyone is welcome to attend these services to acknowledge the sacrifices made by our nation's servicemen and women in all the conflicts Australia has participated in. Today's Remembrance Day services will also mark the 105th anniversary of the Armistice which ended WWI (the guns fell silent at 11:00am). 2023 also marks 78 years since the end of WWII.

• Cherbourg:

A service of Remembrance will be held at the Anzac Memorial in Barambah Avenue. Guests should assemble at 10:30am for a 10:45am start.

• Yarraman:

A service will be held at the Yarraman Cenotaph on the D'Aguilar Highway at 11:00am (wreath-layers should arrive prior to 10:45am). A Catafalque Party will be provided for the service by the troops of 7th Signal Regiment, and attendees will be invited to retire to the RSL rooms ay Kitty Cook House after the service for a lunch and catch up. • Nanango:

A service will be held at the Nanango War Memorial at the corner of Henry and Drayton streets from 10:45am this morning (assembly is at 10:40am). The service will be followed by finger foods and refreshments at the RSL.

• Kingaroy:

This year's Kingaroy Remembrance Day service will be held at Memorial Park in Haly Street, Kingaroy, beginning with a parade from the park entrance in Haly Street along the footpath to the Memorial Rotunda. This will be followed by an acknowledgement of country and an address by Mr Don Davy and this year's guest speaker, Sgt Brett Purdon from the RAAF. The bulk of the service will then run until shortly after 11:00am, after which all guests will be invited to Kingaroy RSL for refreshments.

A service will be held at the cenotaph outside the Wondai Town Hall in Mackenzie Street at 11:00am this morning (assembly is at 10:45am). The commemoration will be followed by light refreshments at the nearby Wondai Diggers Club. More details? Phone 0499-544-278.

• Murgon:

A service will be held at the Murgon War Memorial on the corner of Lamb and Gore Streets between 10:30am and 11:15am this morning. The day's proceedings will be followed by a light lunch in the Diggers Room to which everyone is invited.

• Boondooma:

Boondooma Homestead on the Durong-Mundubbera Road at Boondooma will be holding a Remembrance Day commemoration beginning at 10:00am with morning tea, followed by a service at 11:00am, and then a BBQ lunch. Dress is casual and everyone is welcome, but to help plan the catering an RSVP to (07) 4168-0159 by Tuesday, November 1 would be greatly appreciated.

Widgee will mark Remembrance Day with a service at the Widgee Cenotaph next to Widgee Hall. Guests should arrive no later than 10:50am for the 11:00am service.

Dance - Inverlaw Hall
- A dance will be held at Inverlaw Hall on the Burrandowan Road (roughly 20km from Kingaroy) from 8:00pm until late this evening. Music will be supplied by Mystique and there'll be the usual great supper and novelties, along with a Lucky Door draw. Proston Men's Shed
- The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at their workshop buildings at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for their regular Saturday morning get-together today, kicking off with a cuppa at 9:00am and continuing on until noon. Giant Craft Fair - Blackbutt
- The Blackbutt & District Tourism and Heritage Association will be running a Giant Craft Fair at Blackbutt's Memorial Hall in Bowman Road from 8:00am to 8:00pm today. The Craft Fair will have a huge range of hand-crafted items including jewellery; felt items; woodwork; dolls; baby clothes; embroidered, crocheted and knitted items; hair pieces; magnetic gift sets and more on sale - just perfect for Christmas gifts! - as well as food and drinks available all day. Popular entertainers The Sempf Family will also be performing from 5:30pm when a BBQ lights up to cook dinner treats. Everyone is welcome and admission is free.
South Burnett Speedway - Kingaroy
- The South Burnett Speedway will roar into life at the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy tonight with its second meeting for the 2023-24 season - the Spring Spectacular. The feature race of the meeting will be the hotly contested third round of the McCosker Super Sedan Series, but there'll also be contests for Production Sedans, Modified Sedans, AMCA's and Lightning Sprints in a jam-packed program that will run from 4:00pm (when racing starts) until late tonight. There'll also be canteen facilities operating onsite and campsites will be available in the Showgrounds if you want to stay over. Admission is $30 for adults, $20 for students (with ID) and aged or disability pensioners or $85 for a family of two adults and two students (children 12 and under are free). Everyone is welcome!
Kumbia Community Markets
- The monthly Kumbia Community Markets will be running at the Kumbia Memorial Hall in Bell Street, Kumbia from 8:00am to around noon this morning (set-up is from 7:00am). The markets run on the second Saturday of every month inside and outside the hall and feature bric-a-brac, crafts, food and live entertainment. New stallholders are always welcome, too. More details? Kingaroy Men's Shed
- The Kingaroy Men's Shed will be holding their regular Saturday morning meeting at the old Motor Pool building off Geoff Raph Drive at Kingaroy Airport from 9:00am to around noon today. The group meet every Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday morning and new members and visitors are always welcome.
Murgon Men's Shed Summer Garage Sale
- The Murgon Men's Shed at 75 Macalisater Street, Murgon will be holding their annual Summer Garage Sale from 6:00am this morning until sold out. The sale will be offering home goods, kitchenware, clothing, furniture, books and lots more and this sale is always a great place to spot a bargain or two. Saturday Line Dancing - Wooroolin
- Line dancing classes will be held at Wooroolin Hall on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin this morning. Classes will run from 9:00am to 10:00am (beginners) and 10:30am to 12:30pm (improvers) and a small dancing fee applies to either class. Everyone is welcome.
South Burnett Vintage Release Degustation Dinner - Moffatdale
- Clovely Estate will be hosting a South Burnett Vintage Release Degustation Dinner at their cellar door at 91 Steinhardts Road in Moffatdale from 6:30pm until late tonight. Diners at this event will be able to sample the latest vintages from the region, with each course paired to the most appropriate local wines. Tickets to the dinner are $158 per head and can be booked through Eventbrite
Yarraman Men's Shed

Wooroolin Community Markets
- The Wooroolin Community Markets will be held inside the Wooroolin QCWA Rooms on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin from 6:00am until around 12:00 noon this morning as part of today's Wooroolin celebrations (see entry elsewhere on this page). The markets offer stalls, a sausage sizzle, fresh produce, plants and crafts and are run on the 2nd Saturday of every month except January. Yarraman Markets
- The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The markets - now held on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Saturday each month - feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls. - The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed runs at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. The starting line is adjacent to the Roy Emerson Museum, off Bowman Road. Runners follow a course along the former railway line and the parkrun group is free to join. Dean Perrett & Paul Ricketts - Nanango
- Multi award-winning country music entertainers Dean Perrett and Paul Ricketts will be performing in concert at The Shed in Little Drayton Street, Nanango (just next to the Scott Carpark) from 6:00pm until late tonight. 7th Annual Kingaroy Swap Meet
- The Kingaroy and District Machinery Club will be holding its Seventh Annual Swap Meet at the club's grounds in Geoff Raph Drive near Kingaroy Airport from 6:00am this morning through until around 2:00pm this afternoon. The Swap Meet offers the opportunity to buy and sell all manner of had-to-get parts, tools and bits and pieces of machinery, and if you're into vintage tractors, trucks or steam engines it's heaven on a stick. Stall sites (10m x 6m) are just $10 with set-up on Friday, and overnight camping is available for $10 per site for stallholders who want to stay over. There'll also be food and drinks available on Friday from 6:00pm to 9:00pm, and again today from 5:00am to 1:00pm. Never 2 Old To Rock & Roll - Kilkivan
- The Kilkivan Bush Camping and Caravan Park at 577 Rossmore Road, Kilkivan will be hosting the second day of a two-day Rock & Roll dance weekend today. The event will feature rock and roll, rockabilly and swing dance classes during the day and a night-time dance featuring two live bands from 6:00pm to 11:00pm on a smooth concrete undercover dance floor. Unpowered campsite fees for the full two days are $55 per person, or $30 for Saturday only. Tickets need to be booked online and you can get more details by contacting the park on (07) 5484-1340.
Saturday Cricket
- The South Burnett's junior cricket teams will play the fourth round of their local competition today, with all matches starting at 8:00am. In Stage 2, Kingaroy Kookaburras will play Kingaroy Cobras at River Road Oval in Kingaroy, and Nanango Scorpions will play the Tingoora Vikings at Tingoora Sportsground. And in Stage 3, Kingaroy will play Nanango Scorpions at Taabinga State School. Meanwhile - in the sixth round of the senior competition - Tingoora Vikings will play Kingaroy Services Blue at Tingoora Sportsground; Wondai Wolves will play Nanango Scorpions at the Wondai Cricket Grounds; Wooroolin Warriors will play Kingaroy Services Orange at Kingaroy State School; and Tingoora Huntsmen will play Murgon Diggers at the Murgon Showgrounds, with all senior matches starting at 12:30pm. And finally - in round 5 of the Gympie A Grade One Day Competition - Wooroolin Warriors will play Kozminsky Oval in Gympie, and Murgon Crusaders will play Gympie Colts on a second field at Murgon Showgrounds, with both matches also starting at 12:30pm. Spectators are welcome at all games.
