2021 Kingaroy Show

The first day of the two-day 2021 Kingaroy Show will be held at Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street from 8:00am until late tonight. In addition to the usual big range of horse, cattle and equestrian events, this year's Show will also feature Mini Trotters; a Ute Show; Lawn Mower Races; a South Burnett Junior Motorcycle Speedway; Midget Speedway Cars; vintage machinery; a big display of caged birds; specialty food vans; and a lot more besides. There'll also be a jaw-dropping Sideshow Alley that's always the biggest in the region. The Show's official opening will occur in the main ring at 1:30pm and this will be followed by the Grand Parade at 1:45pm. There'll also be a Westlink Petroleum Giant Fireworks Show around 7:00pm that will light up the night sky. Single day tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children aged 12-17 (under-12s can get in for free). There's also free parking available in the grounds. More info? South Burnett Sub Chamber Finals
The South Burnett Sub Chamber will be holding the finals of this year's Young Paraders and Dairy Cattle Young Judges competitions at the Kingaroy Showgrounds today.
Dance - Inverlaw Hall
The popular Inverlaw Dance will be held at Inverlaw Hall on the Burrandowan Road (roughly 20km from Kingaroy) from 8:00pm until late tonight. This month, music will be supplied by Diamonds and there'll be the usual great supper and novelties, along with a Lucky Door. Bass Fishing Competition - Boondooma Dam
Day 1 of Round 1 of a new-format fishing competition, Bass Fishing Qualifier, will be held from 6:00am to 2:00pm today at Boondooma Dam, near Proston. Entry fee is $105 (with $5 going to the local fish stocking group). Bookings can be made online
Play On! - Nanango
The Nanango Theatre Company will presenting the 2nd and 3rd performances of their latest production Play On!, a comedy in three acts, at their playhouse in Elk Street, Nanango at 2:00pm this afternoon and again at 7:00pm tonight (doors open 30 minutes before each show). Tickets to today's matinee are $20 per head or $15 for concessions (which includes a supper) and tickets to the evening performance are $25 and $20 (which includes wine and cheese). Tickets can be booked online or by phoning 0497-032-528. Note: Five other performances will be given tomorrow (2:00pm); next Friday (7:00pm); next Saturday (2:00pm and 7:00pm); and next Sunday (2:00pm).
Yarraman Men's Shed
The Yarraman Men's Shed at the end of Mill Street, Yarraman will be holding one of its regular get-togethers today. The Men's Shed is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and new members are always welcome. More details? Send them an email
Big Rosella Festival - Woolooga
The first day of the weekend-long Big Rosella Festival will be held at Petersen's Farm at 2 Reilly Road, Woolooga from 9:00am to 3:00pm today. The festival celebrates all things connected to Rosellas and features cooking demos from guest chefs, farm tours, farm talks, food stalls, market stalls, kids activities, a local farmers market and more! Aussie Evangelist - Murgon
The New Horizons Church at 15292 Bunya Highway in Murgon will be hosting Aussie evangelist John Mellor at 2:00pm this afternoon. John started his ministry in the Northern Territory and as he persevered, he says healings started happening regularly. Since then he has travelled to many countries. Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets, but they'll be operating in a COVID Safe way. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and attract up to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed runs at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event. More details? Send an email.

Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held weekly. Everyone is welcome and if you'd like to book a stall yourself - it's only $5! - call Joe on (0459) 638-282. Note: All patrons and stallholders are asked to observe proper social distancing to stay safe.
Wondai State School Reunion
A reunion of Wondai State School Y10 pupils from 1984 will be held at the school's grounds in Kent Street, Wondai at 2:00pm this afternoon. All the students will be turning 50 this year and apart from marking a significant time of life, the reunion will also be a bit of compensation for the pandemic lockdowns that made last year so drab. Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at the old railway station building at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for its regular Saturday morning get-together today, kicking off with a cuppa at 8:00am. Saturday Rugby League
There's no A-Grade or U18s league in the South Burnett this weekend as senior players are taking part in the 47th Battalion carnival in Bundaberg. But at TJ O’Neill Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy, junior games will get underway at 8:00am with an Under 14 game between Kingaroy and Nanango scheduled for 3:00pm. Murgon U14s will be in action in Chinchilla, while South Burnett U15s and U16s will be off to Toowoomba to take on Southern Suburbs in Round 1 of the TJRL competition. South Burnett girls will also be playing in U13s, U15s and U17s with Dalby teams this weekend in Round 1 of the TJRL women’s competition at Dalby.
Amanda Sempf - Linville
Popular Blackbutt entertainer Amanda Sempf will be performing over lunch and dinner today (ie 11:00am to 8:00pm) at the Linville Hotel in George Street, Linville. Wheelchair Basketball - Murgon
The Suncoast Spinners and South Burnett Peace of Mind are hosting Wheelchair Basketball at the South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon, from 10:00am to noon today. Wheelchair basketball is inclusive, which means isn’t just for people in a wheelchair - it's for all people aged 6-70, and wheelchairs will be supplied.
